MI Cape Town

MI Cape Town struggled with its batting on a difficult pitch against the Sunrisers. Dewald Brevis scored 15 runs at a strike rate of 53.57 and was the only batter in the top 4 to get into double figures. It took real brilliance from George Linde down the order to be able to get MI Cape Town to a competitive total. 

The lack of runs from Ryan Rickelton and Grant Roelofsen will be bothering MI Cape Town. Rassie van der Dussen played well for his 29 in the previous match and could build on that form in this match. Overall, the batting lineup for MI Cape Town continues to look very shaky. 

Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, Rashid Khan, and Odean Smith bowled with a lot of heart to try and make their score as difficult to chase down as possible. Olly Stone, MI Cape Town's best bowler up until this match, was the most expensive as he had an off-day. 

MI Cape Town has two wins from its four matches. It may be at the top of the table right now but that position is looking a bit difficult to keep.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Sunrisers Eastern Cape finally managed to get its first win of SA 20 2023. Aiden Markram was brilliant for the Sunrisers with both bat and ball. He picked up two wickets for just 8 runs and then scored a match-winning 50 to set up the chase. Tristan Stubbs also played well for 30 from just 18 balls to help his side get over the line. 

The Sunrisers will be happy that they got over the line but they are also not without their problems yet. Their top order has been struggling and can be a bit vulnerable. JJ Smuts needs to be more consistent and Sarel Erwee needs to pick up his pace of scoring. 

The bowling lineup is also far too dependent on Marco Jansen. Sisanda Magala and Ottniel Baartman picked up five wickets between them in the previous match but we think that had a lot to do with the kind of surface they were playing on.
