About the Match
Renegades, who are positioned sixth with 2 points, will host Scorchers, who are in the fourth position with 2 points, in the 13th league match of the series at Melbourne on 30th December. As the competition gets heated, the two teams will fight hard to get two more valuable points and rise up the ladder
with a win here; while Scorchers have recently defeated Heat and have a boosted confidence, the hosts come here at the back of a loss to Sixers and will be eager to bounce back into the game. It needs to be seen which team can cleverly use the resources at hand to outwit the other here on Wednesday.
Despite a combined effort by batsmen Bravo, Gayle and Beaton, who took the total to a competitive 172 runs, the bowlers couldn’t grab the opportunity to win the match against Sixers. Rimmington took 4-26 while Tremain claimed two wickets in spite of giving away too many runs; however, their efforts went in vain as the opposition wrapped it up with 7 balls to spare. Bowlers like Doherty and Stevenson leaked too many runs and they need to put up a more disciplined attack in the upcoming match.
In the previous game against Heat, the batsmen fought hard to chase 181 runs successfully with a thunderous 65 from Finch and Cameron White’s 55 off 41 balls. Bravo, Gayle and Wade chipped in and are looking good to contribute with the bat yet again.
On the bowling front, they need to pull up their socks and work on getting regular breakthroughs while stifling the opponents. They have a strong batting line-up with stalwarts like Finch, Gayle and Bravo on their side; the middle order consists of Wade, White and Beaton, who need to keep the scoreboard ticking whether batting first or during chase.
Andrew Tye’s 3-23 removed the middle order of Heat in the last match to restrict them to 117 runs; he got good support from Behrendorff, who took 2 scalps including the opening break of Simmon’s wicket in the very second ball of the innings, and Willey and Hogg who claimed a wicket each. The chase was easy and the batsmen took the team home safely with almost 5 overs to spare; while Klinger continued with his good form posting an unbeaten 53, Harris and Agar contributed well to reach the target. It was a tremendous effort on all fronts that got them their first victory of the season
However, in the game against Strikers, the bowlers couldn’t defend a target of 151 runs; Joel Paris and David Willey took 2 wickets apiece while Nathan Coulter-Nile and Tye took a wicket each but they suffered defeat by 4 wickets against a determined opposition.
They have had a mixed run so far but will be eager to continue with their winning momentum and start climbing up the ladder; if the batsmen can build a strong foundation and the bowlers can find answers to experts like Gayle and Finch, this team could definitely move ahead with a win here.
The match would surely be a keen contest between the in-form batsmen from both sides; although Renegades will fight hard, we feel the visitors are much better placed to win this match
