The Mumbai Indians will be hosting the Chennai Super Kings in the next match as the hosts try to get their IPL 2019 season on track. Mumbai Indians were defeated easily by the Kings XI Punjab side in the previous match and now have the tough task of trying to hand Chennai Super Kings their first defeat of IPL 2019.
Mumbai Indians have lost of two out of the three games they have played while Chennai has won all three of its matches so far. CSK overcame some tough conditions and a motivated opponent to win against the Rajasthan Royals in the previous match. It was a magnificent performance from the defending champions who now sit on the top of the IPL 2019 league table.
Beating Mumbai in Mumbai, though, is never easy.
The loss in the previous match against Kings XI was a poor one. Sides can often be outplayed and there is nothing that can be done about it but Mumbai contributed immensely to its own defeat. The batting performance was not good and the Mumbai Indians fell short by about 20-30 runs in the end from what they looked like reaching.
The bowling was also unable to pick wickets and the reliance on Jasprit Bumrah to bail out the side was very apparent. Rohit Sharma is an astute captain but he was not quick enough to spot the problems and make changes in the previous match either.
Now, Mumbai Indians cannot afford to make the same mistakes against the Chennai Super Kings.
A couple of problems must be addressed in the side. Kieron Pollard’s IPL 2019 form has been poor and he has yet to make any valuable contribution. His T20 form leading up to the tournament had been exceptional but Mumbai Indians may be tempted to swap him out with Ben Cutting.
Lasith Malinga has also been a pale shadow of himself in the two matches he has played. He is not being able to stop the runs from being scored or picking wickets. Mumbai Indians cannot afford to be carrying two non-performing overseas players in their side.
Quinton de Kock played a good inning in the previous match and he is going to be the danger player once again. De Kock makes the most of good form and has often played back to back match winning innings in the past.
Not a single Mumbai Indians player ranks in the top-10 run scorers right now and that is something that needs to change. Similarly, Mumbai Indians need to find some match-winning performances from their bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah alone cannot do all the work for the side.
Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, SA Yadav, Y Singh, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, JJ Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, Jason Behrendorff.
The Chennai Super Kings would have been very pleased with their win against the Rajasthan Royals. The side was in a tough spot and losing the toss had been a big disadvantage as well. MS Dhoni, though, rolled back the years and scored 75 off 46 balls to lead his side to victory.
On a pitch where every other batsman struggled, especially before the dew came down, MS Dhoni stood out.
All of Chennai’s three victories have come on slow tracks. Now they are going to be traveling to Mumbai to pay at the Wankhede where a different style of cricket has to be played. Mumbai is one of the highest scoring venues of the IPL and Chennai’s batting strength will come under the scanner.
Ambati Rayadu has had a very poor IPL and it remains to be seen for how long he can continue to trudge along at the top. Rayadu made his name playing in Mumbai and so maybe a return here does him good.
Ambati Rayadu, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Kedar Jadhav, and MS Dhoni form a strong top-order on paper but they don’t have the best current form. Harbhajan Singh did not play the last match and was replaced by Mitchell Santner but we don’t think this is a permanent change.
If anything, CSK may look to beef up its batting by including Faf du Plessis in the side.
Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur are the kind of bowlers that can be very expensive on a flat wicket. Ravindra Jadeja has also struggled at such venues in the past. This means that Dwayne Bravo and Imran Tahir are going to be very important to the fortunes of the Chennai Super Kings in this match.
Ambati Rayudu, SR Watson, SK Raina, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Mohit Sharma, SN Thakur, Imran Tahir.
There is a perception that Wankhede is a difficult ground to defend on but the statistics dont't agree. There have been 67 IPL games played at Wankhede of which 34 have been won by the team batting first and 33 by the team batting second.
Still, we expect the side winning the toss to want to field first.

MI vs CSK IPL 2019 is going to be played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The weather forecast for match day suggests a bright sunny day with no chance of rain. The pitch should be good for batting and we can expect a game with plenty of boundaries.
The head to head between the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings is 14-12 in favor of Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai Indians have also won 5 out of the 8 matches they have played against Chennai at the Wankhede.
More importantly, Mumbai Indian shave won four out of the last five matches against the Chennai Super Kings.
Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is a very good batting venue and there are usually plenty of sixes hit here. We are basing our Dream 11 picks for MI vs CSK on the presumption that a high scoring game is likely.
Wicket Keeper: Both Quinton de Kock and MS Dhoni are in good form. We have decided to pick Quinton de Kock from this category because he is an opening batsman, scores at a very high strike-rate, and is known to go back to back matches with big scores.
Batsmen: Picking 5 out of the multiple high-quality batsmen available was not an easy task. Rohit Sharma, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Amabati Rayadu, and Yuvraj Singh are the players we have settled on. Leaving out Kieron Pollard was a tough choice but we feel Yuvraj Singh may enjoy the small boundaries and good batting wicket at the Wankhede. None of the batsmen that we have picked have really had a big inning in IPL 2019 and we are hopeful they can turn things around in this match.
All-Rounders: We have picked Dwayne Bravo and Krunal Pandya from the available players in this category. Bravo is the joint leading wicket-taker in IPL 2019 while Krunal Pandya has been in good bowling form as well. They can both contribute with the bat if needed too.
Bowlers: We have space for three bowlers in our lineup. Imran Tahir, Mitchell McClenaghan, and Mayank Markande are the bowlers we have picked. Tahir is also in the race to be the highest wicket-taker while the other two bowlers have been in good form as well.
Captain and Vice Captain: We have picked Rohit Sharma as our captain and Shane Watson as the vice-captain. Both Rohit Sharma and Shane Watson have a good record at the Wankhede and are among the best six-hitters in the world.

We think that Chennai Super Kings winning the first three matches has made the rate available for Mumbai very favorable. The Mumbai Indians are a strong side that is playing in home conditions. Chennai’s weak fast bowling attack makes it vulnerable to defeat in our opinion.
Back the Mumbai Indians to win.
