We are finally at the stage in the Indian Premier League which we all were waiting for. This year's edition on the tournament has arguably been the most competitive of all time with just one point separating the fourth-placed Sunrisers and the wooden-spoon holders Royal Challengers Bangalore. Chennai Super Kings have kept their reputation of qualifying for the playoffs in every single edition they've played whereas Mumbai Indians were uncharacteristically consistent in their run to the playoffs.
Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings were the top-two finishers in the points table and the two teams are set to lock horns on 7th May at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Needless to say, the winner of this match will progress to the final of the grand event whereas the losing team will have to face either of Sunrisers Hyderabad or Delhi Capitals in the second qualifier. Considering a final spot at stake, we expect both the sides come out all guns blazing and a scintillating contest is definitely on the cards.
Uncharacteristically, Mumbai Indians didn't really have a slow start this year. In fact, they were always within the top four teams of the tournament and maintained their consistency across the fixtures.
The primary reason for their such performances have been the two men at opposite ends of their batting lineup. One is Quinton de Kock who has smashed numerous fifties in the build-up to the playoffs and the other one is arguably the best Indian player in this IPL in Hardik Pandya.
Hardik Pandya has been brilliant this year in both the departments of the game, more with the bat. His striking towards the end of the innings has been on par with Andre Russell, if not more. Apart from him, however, their batting has lacked consistency with their middle-order being chopped and changed more often than not.
Mumbai Indians will draw confidence from the kind of performance they produced against Kolkata Knight Rider with both bat and ball. Lasith Malinga turned back the clock with his superb spell which rocked Kolkata Knight Riders. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya were brilliant too with Krunal Pandya controlling things beautifully in the middle-overs.
Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma, SA Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, J Yadav, Rahul Chahar, JJ Bumrah, Lasith Malinga.
Chennai Super Kings have arguably been the most consistent side of the tournament, yet Mumbai Indians toppled them in the points table, albeit on net run rate. They registered nine wins during the league stage with three of their losses coming when their regular skipper, MS Dhoni, decided to take rest due to a back injury.
CSK's record this season with Dhoni as their captain has been stupendous with nine wins in 11 matches which speaks volumes about the influence of the veteran on the team. The Super Kings have also been brilliant while playing at home, the same venue where they'll face Mumbai Indians on Tuesday, and will be looking to add another win to their tally at their fortress. Having said that, the last time these two teams played at Chepauk, the Super Kings - led by Suresh Raina, failed to chase a mediocre target.
Chennai Super Kings suffered a major blow in the last round-robin fixture where Kedar Jadhav suffered a shoulder injury while trying to prevent an overthrow go to the boundary and is ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. Even though Jadhav had been an important cog in that lineup, he won't really be too difficult to replace considering the solid Super Kings' batting lineup. Shane Watson hasn't scored runs in the last couple of matches, but the manner in which Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis batted against KXIP should give plenty of confidence to the men in yellow.
While CSK's spinners haven't been as impressive while playing away, they have been brilliant at the Chepauk's surface. Imran Tahir, Harbhajan Singh, and Deepak Chahar have all been in terrific form with the ball and will be looking to provide their side with yet another dream start. Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo have played their part with supreme justice and with the balance and experience CSK have, they won't be easy to get past in the first qualifier.
SR Watson, M Vijay, Faf du Plessis, SK Raina, MS Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Deepak Chahar, Imran Tahir.
With dew an important factor and considering that setting totals hasn't always been easy at Chepauk, the team winning the toss should be looking to bowl first.

Right from the beginning of the tournament, this venue has been a dream to bowl at for the spinners. Teams have struggled to cope up the turning ball and the success of all spinners including Imran Tahir and Harbhajan Singh hasn't gone unnoticed. Dew will certainly be a factor on a warm night and the team batting first should be happy if they're able to post anything over 160.

Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have a long-standing rivalry in the history of Indian Premier League and it's only fitting that these two are locking horns to book a slot in the final of this edition of Indian Premier League. In the round-robin stage, they left with Mumbai Indians on top - winning both their away and home matches. While both sides look absolute beasts on paper, we think that the experience of Chennai Super Kings couple with MS Dhoni's captaincy might prove to be too much to handle for the men in yellow. Having said that, Mumbai Indians have Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and Quinton de Kock in superb form and are better-placed to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter, slightly though.
