MI vs KKR Match Prediction - Oct 16, 2020

At the time of this writing, the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders are both in the top-4 of the IPL standings. The group is very tightly packed right now, though, and things could change. Mumbai has won five out of its seven matches and has looked the best side. It even defeated the Delhi Capitals convincingly in its previous match.

KKR, on the other hand, lost its previous match to RCB and was very lucky to come away with a win against KXIP in the one before that. A couple of player concerns have forced it to rejig its team balance as well.

This is an important match for both teams but it is clear that MI has lesser to lose.

MI vs KKR IPL 2020 is going to be played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on the 16th of October 2020.

MI vs KKR Team Previews

Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians have been the best team of IPL 2020 by far. Their closest competitors up until now would be the Delhi Capitals but even they proved to be no match. Currently, on the top of the league standings, the focus for MI is going to be to try and pull ahead of the rest of the pack now.

This is where being ruthless is going to come in handy.

MI has been very consistent with its team selection so far and we don’t think that is going to change. Rohit Sharma does not like to change his team too much and so we expect the same team to take the field in this match as well.

All of MI’s top-order has scored runs in IPL 2020 now. Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, and even Krunal Pandya. If anything, we just wish that MI becomes a bit more flexible and allows Pollard to come up before Kishan after the tenth over.

MI tends to like to keep its powerful middle-order exclusively for the last five overs and that is a dangerous ploy, especially as the pitches become slower. Starting fast is going to be more difficult and MI could find itself stuck in a hole.

The bowling attack has been doing well for MI. Trent Boult, James Pattinson, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Krunal Pandya are the regular bowlers. They keep a tight lid on things when they bowl and more often than not, pick up earl wickets as well.

We don’t think this is a bowling attack that cannot be brought down, though. As the pitches become slower, the difference between MI and the other teams is going to keep coming down.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR added Tom Banton to the side in place of Sunil Narine and we frankly loved that. It gives them a proper opener, something that Sunil Narine was not, and also takes away the pressure from Rahul Tripathi who looked troubled against genuine pace.

Banton must find a way to adapt to the slower conditions quickly, though.

KKR’s batting needs a bit of work. Shubman Gill seems to be scoring runs in most matches but is not carrying on to big scores. His strike-rate could also be better considering he bats at the top of the order.

Nitish Rana and Eoin Morgan are struggling for runs even though they seemed to be in great touch at the start of IPL 2020. Dinesh Karthik played wonderfully against KXIP but has nothing else for quite a while and Andre Russell has yet to make a lasting impact in IPL 2020.

A strong batting lineup on paper is not being able to play to potential. This is where things start to spiral out as tactics change, players shift out of positions, and are forced to play out of character. KKR needs to arrest this slide in its batting very quickly.

The bowling attack is struggling too. Pat Cummins has not been the buy that everyone thought he may be. Now that Sunil Narine is absent and Andre Russell always close to an injury, the pace at which pressure on the Indian contingent in this lineup is immense.

Prasidh Krishna, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Varun Chakravarthy are expected to lead an IPL attack. They are talented but frankly not yet world-class. It is also a striking sight to see Kuldeep Yadav being sat on the bench even when the bowling resources are stretched so thin.

KKR is spiraling and needs a couple of its senior players to stand up now.

Shubman Gill, RA Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik, Andre Russell, Christopher Green, Pat Cummins, Shivam Mavi, Varun Chakravarthy, Prasidh Krishna.

MI vs KKR Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. The advantage of batting first and setting a total is fast becoming clear now. The dew factor, which was the reason why teams were chasing in the first place, seems to be less important than the pitch slowing down. The team batting first should be seen as having a significant advantage.

Pitch and Conditions

Abu Dhabi has been the slowest-scoring ground out of all the three in IPL 2020. The pitches here had a nice covering of grass to begin with but have become bare as the tournament has progressed. We can see the MI batsmen enjoy these conditions much more than the KKR batsmen.

Similarly, the kind of bowlers that MI has are also more likely to be able to adapt better to the lack of pace.

Scores are only going to go down from here on in. We think anything around 170 could be match-winning.

MI vs KKR Betting Tips

We are going to stick with the favorites in this contest. MI has a better batting lineup as well as a batter bowling attack. It is in superior form and holds a big advantage over KKR in head to head contests.

The change in conditions from India to UAE seems to be more difficult for KKR to handle.

Bet on the Mumbai Indians to win.

    Mumbai Indians ($1.83)

We think you are getting some extremely competitive odds for this bet considering the fr that Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock are in. KKR has a new opening combination with Tom Banton in there and will be under pressure. We think this is a good and a relatively safe opportunity to try and get a win.

  1. Betway

    Kieron Pollard Total Sixes

    Over 0.5 at 1.70

    Visit

This is our favorite bet for the match. Imagine a player like Kieron Pollard being able to get you a return of 70% for just hitting one six! The risk here is that Pollard may not get to bat but we have seen in IPL 2020, he is more than likely going to get some balls to face in the final few overs. We always back him to hit a six in the form that he is currently in.

    O/U Highest Individual Score

    Under 66.5 ($1.86)

The pitches have started to become slower and as a result, the overall score is coming down. What this means is that batsmen get in and play for a long time without really getting massive scores. It is also more difficult for the chasing teams in general. We think you have a great shot of winning under the pass line in this case.

  1. 22Bet

    22Bet

    Rohit Sharma – Total 4’s

    Over 2.5 ($1.66)

    Visit

This is another great bet in our opinion. Rohit Sharma loves batting against KKR and also got runs against them in the previous match they played. Batting at the top of the order is the best time to bat as well. Back him to get three boundaries to his name for sure.
