Two teams are fast fading from the qualification race in IPL 2019 and it is going to take something really special for them to be able to make a comeback. One of those two teams, the Rajasthan Royals, is going to be traveling to Mumbai to play against the Mumbai Indians in this match.
This match is very important for the Rajasthan Royals. They lost off the last ball against the Chennai Super Kings and now have five losses from their six matches. This means that they need to win around 7 out of their next 8 games to have a chance of qualifying for the IPL 2019 playoffs.
The Mumbai Indians are in a much better position. Kieron Pollard played a commanding inning to help them chase down a huge total. They now have four wins from six matches and are firmly in the top half of the table.
Mumbai has won two out of the three matches it has played at home so far and has been tough to beat.
Rohit Sharma did not play the previous match after a slight injury concern and we think he may not be available for this match either. His absence allowed Kieron Pollard to take charge and play one of the most incredible innings of IPL 2019.
He came in at number four, his preferred batting position and played a match-winning role. This is something he has been doing in the CPL and other leagues around the world. It is just astonishing that it has taken so long for the Mumbai Indians to promote him in the batting order.
Siddhesh Lad got a chance in place of Rohit Sharma and we don’t think there will be any change in the side if Rohit misses this match also. Kieron Pollard’s inning covered up some batting issues for the Mumbai Indians.
Quinton de Kock has been struggling for fluency and has been unable to provide the kind of big scores expected of him. With the untested Siddhesh Lad as his partner, the chances of early wickets falling for the Mumbai Indians cannot be ruled out.
Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Ishan Kishan, and Hardik Pandya have their work cut out for them.
The bowling department for Mumbai Indians had been performing very well in the last few matches. IN the last match against Kings XI, the bowling was found to be lacking under pressure. They are going to be up against a struggling Rajasthan Royals side in this match and there can be some reasonable expectations of a better result.
Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, SA Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Alzarri Joseph, Rahul Chahar, Jason Behrendorff, JJ Bumrah.
Five losses from six matches have put the Rajasthan Royals in a very difficult position indeed. Their side appeared unbalanced coming into IPL 2019 and those weaknesses are now showing up in matches. The Rajasthan Royals are far too dependent on their foreign players.
Jos Buttler, Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, and Jofra Archer are very good T20 players but they have not been performing as per expectations. Buttler has played a couple of good innings and has looked in good form but has not been able to convert his starts more consistently.
Steve Smith has struggled to score at a good strike rate and seems to be lacking in confidence at the moment. Ben Stokes has been unable to score runs with the bat and his bowling has gone for a lot of runs as well. Out of all the four, he has been the biggest letdown for Rajasthan Royals.
Jofra Archer is always threatening but he is not going getting the kind of help needed from the surfaces either.
It is time for the Rajasthan Royals to make some changes to their side. They have Ashton Turner who can replace Steve Smith and Ish Sodhi on the bench who can be a good wicket taking option as well. Even Liam Livingstone could be considered for selection at the top of the order.
Just playing the same side and pretending that things will take care of themselves on their own is not going to work for the Rajasthan Royals anymore.
The bowling performed better than it had in previous matches against Chennai. Jayadev Unadkat, Dhawal Kulkarni, and Jofra Archer all bowled well. Shreyas Gopal did not pick up a wicket but he was pretty useful as well.
This set of bowlers is going to have a much tougher task ahead of it in Mumbai. The Wankhede is one of the highest scoring grounds in IPL 2019 and will require a precise execution of skills from the entire bowling unit.
Ajinkya Rahane, Jos Buttler, Steven Smith, SV Samson, RA Tripathi, Liam Livingstone, K Gowtham, Jofra Chioke Archer, S Gopal, JD Unadkat, DS Kulkarni.
The side winning the toss is expected to field first. The Wankhede is a small ground and defending totals can be very difficult.

MI vs RR IPL 2019 is going to be played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The weather is expected to be excellent for cricket on match day. There is no threat of rain and the temperatures will be around the early thirties.
This is a day match and so the humidity should not be much of a concern. Only a slight increase in humidity from 44% at 4 o’clock in the afternoon to 55% at 8 o’clock at night is expected.
The pitch at Mumbai has been excellent for batting. The ball has been coming on nicely to the bat and the same should be the case in this match as well. A score of about 180 should be considered par.
Differentiating your team with some uncommon picks and getting the captain/vice-captain right is going to be important in this match. There are a few players that are in form who are going to be on everyone's radar.
Wicketkeeper: There are just two options here. Jos Buttler and Quinton de Kock. Rajasthan's bowling is quite ordinary and de Kock could have a good game but Buttler is also due for some runs. The excellent batting pitch at Mumbai should suit Buttler who is in better form than de Kock.
Batsmen: We don't think that Steve Smith will play the upcoming game but a final call will have to be taken after the toss. As of now, we have picked Ajinkya Rahane, Sanju Samson, Kieron Pollard, and Ishan Kishan. Our final team has enough credits remaining that a high-value player like Rohit Sharma can be included if he is made available for the match. Kieron Pollard was brilliant at number four in the previous match and we think he should continue to bat at the same position.
All-Rounders: We have picked the three maximum all-rounders in our side. Ben Stokes, Hardik Pandya, and Krunal Pandya. Mumbai is the one place where Ben Stokes could find his hitting range back to its best. Hardik and Krunal are both likely to bowl their quota of overs in this match as well.
Bowlers: This leaves us with three bowlers to pick. We have picked Dhawal Kulkarni, Jofra Archer, and Rahul Chahar in this match. Kulkarni is a local boy and has a very good understanding of the conditions while the extra bounce in the pitch could help Jofra Archer. Rahul Chahar has been very good in the matches he has played as well.
Captain and Vice-Captain: We have picked Kieron Pollard as the captain because of his ability to hit sixes and counting on the fact that he will bat in the top-4. Our vice-captain is Sanju Samson, another top-order batsman who loves batting at the Wankhede.
The Mumbai Indians are a side that is in good form. They are winning matches from close positions and even the loss of their best batsman did not set them back. The Rajasthan Royals, are in the exact opposite position. They have got themselves in winning position only to lose those matches. They will need to change the composition of their side for this match as well.
Back Mumbai Indians to win.
