The start of this year's campaign for Mumbai Indians has been so unlike them. However, they won't complain. Unlike in most of the seasons before wherein they took a bit of extra time to get into the groove, Mumbai Indians are leading the points table this year. They have still been far from their best and will be looking to peak just at the right time.
Up next in the tournament are Mumbai Indians set to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have bounced back brilliantly into the contention. The two teams have opposite strengths and the match, more or less, will be decided by the result of a mini-battle between the Sunrisers' bowling and Mumbai's batting. Considering that both sides are coming off superb results in their respective matches, a cracker of a contest is on the cards. The match is set to be played at Sharjah Cricket Ground, Sharjah, on 4th October 2020.
After getting off to a sorry start, Mumbai Indians got back to what they do the best - winning games. With two wins in four matches, they are currently sitting at the top of the table and will be looking to find some momentum and consistency as they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad.
It's been a tournament of fightbacks for Mumbai Indians. First, it was the pair of Ishan Kishan and Kieren Pollard that took them so close to the win before succumbing in the super-over against Royal Challengers Bangalore. They were a lot luckier in their subsequent match as Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Kieren Pollard led them to a towering total against Kings XI Punjab, the total which Mumbai Indians defended with significant ease.
Perhaps the most prominent reason for Mumbai Indians' early resurgence this year has been the form of Kieren Pollard. For the second consecutive match, Kieren Pollard helped his side fetch over 80 runs in the last five overs and that turned out to be game-changing on both occasions. Against Kings XI Punjab, though, he was well assisted by Hardik Pandya, who himself smashed 30 off 11 deliveries.
Mumbai Indians have had a fair share of problems to deal with, but the fact that they have come out ahead more often than not speaks volumes about their approach to the game. Quinton de Kock's form at the top might be the cause of concern for the management and the fans alike, but given the surface of Sharjah, we expect Mumbai Indians to persist with the South African wicket-keeper batsman.
There's hardly any team in the tournament that possess as much power in the middle-order as Mumbai Indians. Kieren Pollard, Hardik Pandya, and Krunal Pandya are not only the heavy strikers of the cricket ball but also score pretty consistently. Besides, with James Pattinson to follow the trio, Mumbai Indians have the fire-power available right down till number eight.
If Mumbai Indians do not look intimidating with the bat, their bowling will certainly make them look so. With Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, they have two of the world's best bowlers available to pick wickets, be it at the beginning or at the death. James Pattinson is another speedster who has been brilliant in the tournament so far. Although their spin department looks a bit inexperienced, the likes of Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar do not let them feel so. In fact, it was Chahar's brilliant spell that helped Mumbai Indians notch a huge win over Kings XI Punjab.
Given the team Mumbai Indians have on paper, it would not be wrong to say that they have perhaps the most well-balanced side in the tournament. The only issue for them has so far been inconsistency at the top of the order and the surface at Sharjah might help them to get that in order. If they can, Mumbai Indians will be a tough team to get past in the upcoming encounter.

With a massive win over Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad once again exhibited that they are a team that is not be taken lightly. While the margin of their win against Chennai Super Kings was only of 7 runs, Sunrisers were always ahead in the game in the second innings. With two wins in their kitty, Hyderabad's campaign now appears to be back on track and they'll be looking to add as many points as possible in the least possible time.
Unlike what was expected of Sunrisers Hyderabad, their win was built purely on the efforts of the youngsters. After David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Manish Pandey, and Kane Williamson all perished with not many runs on the board, the pair of Abhishek Sharma and Priyam Garg brought them back into the match. Kane Williamson looked in terrific form, but an unfortunate run-out against Chennai Super Kings robbed him of an opportunity to spend some time in the middle. While Sharma perished after scoring a 24-ball 31, Garg went on to score a fifty and was consequently judged as the player of the match. Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to put a total of 164 runs on the board, the total which their bowlers made a lot more than it actually was.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have always been known for their terrific bowling attack and the way they have managed to defend two matches in a row shows why. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, and T Natarajan were brilliant in the powerplay as Sunrisers picked up three important wickets inside the first six overs. Despite having only four mainstream bowlers at his disposal, David Warner never appeared to be perturbed as he rotated his bowlers perfectly. After a man of the match performance against Delhi Capitals, Rashid Khan once again proved his worth for a side as he returned with incredible numbers fo 12 for 0 in his four overs. His spell was a lot more significant than the numbers suggest as Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni couldn't even fetch the singles, which mounted the pressure on CSK.
Injury to Bhuvneshwar Kumar is certainly going to be a cause of concern for the Sunrisers, but as per the early scenes, we do not expect Bhuvneshwar Kumar to be a part of the upcoming contest, leaving Sunrisers' death bowling in complete shambles. Even though Natarajan and Khaleel have done well, the experience or lack thereof could be a factor against the potent lower middle-order of Mumbai Indians.
The surface at Sharjah should help Sunrisers' top-order, which hasn't looked in good touch since the last few matches. Hitting sixes shouldn't be as difficult as it was at Abu Dhabi and Dubai and that might be a trigger enough for David Warner and Jonny Bairstow to gather some momentum. Although their youngsters proved that they can be trusted upon in crunch situations, it would be interesting to see how they perform when the opportunity presents itself again. Until then, Sunrisers' batting appears to be a bit top-heavy, but considering that Sharjah is not a venue where deep batting lineups often come into the picture, that might well be a blessing in disguise for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The Sunrisers undoubtedly have a few concerns to address in their upcoming match and the most prominent of those will be to find Bhuvneshwar's replacement, if he is unavailable. Apart from that, the performance of their top-order will also be under the scanner. While the likes of Bairstow, Pandey, and Warner have all looked in decent form, none of them have yet managed a big score. If Sunrisers Hyderabad can address those problems, they will certainly have an advantage at Sharjah, wherein small boundaries largely take power-hitting out of the game.

Toss hasn't played played a crucial factor in the tournament so far. If anything, more often than not, the team that has lost has ended up winning the match. This is a high scoring venue and runs on the defending team could put pressure on the chasing team provided there are enough runs to defend. With no dew to assist, the surface could get a tad slow towards the end, making hitting through the line difficult. Considering those factors, we expect the team winning the toss to bat first.

This is the first time the two teams will get a taste of Sharjah's surface and the batsmen are certainly going to relish it. This match is expected to be played on a fresh surface, but we don't think it is going to make any different. With short boundaries all across the ground, the six fest is once again on the cards. This is a day game and as seen in the RR - RCB match, the fitness levels will be tested, be it while batting or while bowling. Also, dew will not be a factor to assist the teams batting second. Given the surface that Sharjah has and the other conditions likely to prevail, the team batting first should be looking to put a total of at least 190 runs on the board.

Both sides are coming into the upcoming match on the back of splendid wins behind them and will be brimming with confidence. As seen in all matches played at Sharjah, the power advantage isn't as much as it is in most other venues. Timing the ball well will fetch the similar returns as hitting it hard, which necessarily takes away the advantage that most power-hitters have during the death overs. Having said that, Sunrisers Hyderabad are likely to be without Bhuvneshwar Kumar and his absence could be a telling factor here. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, are likely to venture in with their full-strength side, which is one of the most well-balanced sides of the competition. Comparing the two teams on paper, Mumbai Indians appear to be a better-balanced team between the two, and are, therefore, favorites to prevail in the upcoming encounter.
Sharjah Cricket Ground is a high scoring venue where dismissing batsmen is extremely difficult. Short boundaries mean that set batsmen can score their runs quickly. We have already seen multiple 200+ totals scored here and it won't be surprising if it happens again. With that likely, we expect the highest Individual score to far exceed 67 runs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad aren't known for their big-hitting prowess. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have the likes of Kieren Pollard, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya to are known for their six-hitting abilities. Also, Mumbai Indians is the team that has already hit 29 sixes in the tournament whereas Sunrisers Hyderabad are languishing somewhere in the bottom of that chart. With the firepower Mumbai Indians have at their disposal, this appears to be a rather safe bet.
This clearly is the punt with the best risk-reward ratio. This match is going to be played on a fresh surface having short boundaries on all sides. As has been the case in all the matches played here so far, scoring runs should be easy and total of 379 or more runs will very likely be scored in the match.
These are the two batsmen who shoulder the middle-order load for Sunrisers Hyderabad. We often see Sunrisers' middle-order exposed and if that happens again, these two batsmen will fancy their chances on this surface. They have both looked good in the middle and give the nature of the surface and the size of the ground, hitting a personal score of 30 or more shouldn't be difficult for any of Pandey or Williamson.
