The Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad played two very exciting matches at Chennai in the first week of IPL 2020. While the Mumbai Indians triggered a dramatic collapse and won the game against KKR, Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a dramatic collapse and lost its match against RCB.
Needless to say, Mumbai Indians is the happier camp to be in right now.
SRH has lost both its matches in IPL 2021 so far and has some pretty big issues to get past. The team is not balanced and the choice of the overseas players is not clear either. MI also has to make a few adjustments in its strategy as it is going to be playing five matches in Chennai during IPl 2021 and those are not going to be easy to win.
Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL 2021 is going to be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on the 17th of April 2021.
MI may have stumbled upon the right way to play at Chennai in its previous match. Batting first, MI made 152 as a good start was followed by a difficult-to-score period in the death overs. The bowlers then staged a remarkable comeback in the final five overs of the second inning and helped MI get a win.
Armed with this knowledge, we think MI will adapt its game and will be aiming for a score of around 155-165 if it gets to bat first again. Rohit Sharma spent some time in the middle but was not his fluent best. Suryakumar Yadav was sublime and played the inning of the match as he scored 56 from just 36 deliveries.
Overall, though, the kind of batting performances that we have come to expect from MI in the past has been missing. We have gotten used to seeing Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and even Krunal Pandya come out and boost totals but that is proving to be very difficult in Chennai.
Rohit Sharma does not like to change his team too much and so we don’t think there will be any change in the playing eleven for this match. Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan have enough balance in the bank to cover a few poor performances for sure.
The world-class bowling attack showed its quality in the previous match as Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and even Marco Jensen did their job. If there was to be a change then we would like to see Jimmy Neesham in the lineup in place of Marco Jensen.
Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, SA Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Adam Milne, Rahul Chahar, JJ Bumrah, Trent Boult.
A match that seemed to be in the bag was somehow lost and that would hurt SRH very much. The IPL is usually a closely contested tournament and every single victory holds significance. This match could come back and haunt SRH as the fight for the playoff positions becomes closer.
For the time being, SRH needs to answer a few important questions. Can it afford to keep Kane Williamson on the bench? Has it got its batting order right? Is this the best bowling attack that SRh can put out at the moment?
Let us look at these questions objectively. We don’t think Kane Williamson is going to replace Jonny Bairstow after just one bad performance. He has been very good in tough Indian conditions and we think Williamson is just going to have to sit out. Warner, Rashid, and Holder are locked in for the time being.
The batting order could use a bit of tweaking. We are not sure that Wriddhiman Saha is the best option to open the batting and it is time to maximize Jonny Bairstow at the top of the order. That is where the most runs are being scored and holding him back serves no purpose.
The middle-order of Manish Pandey, Abdul Samad, Vijay Shankar, and Jason Holder is a bit sketchy but there is a lot of power there. On a good day, Samad and Holder could get a lot of runs very quickly.
The bowling lineup for SRH has done its job quite well and no changes seem to be necessary there either. Jason Holder started with three wickets and Rashid Khan is going to be very dangerous on this Chennai pitch every single time.
Shahbaz Nadeem was also very good and only took some stick in the last over he bowled.
SRH needs to just shift a few things around and we still think it can be one of the most impressive teams in IPL 2021.
David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Manish Pandey, Virat Singh, Abdul Samad, V Shankar, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Khaleel Ahmed.
The toss is going to be very interesting. Teams have had a tough time chasing in Chennai and we think they may start opting to bat first from here on in. The dew that was expected to even things out has not yet turned up and the ball becomes very difficult to hit after it becomes a bit old.

The conditions in Chennai have been quite tough for the batsmen. The new ball has been the best time to bat against and the spinners have held sway after that. The death overs used to be where the batting side would attack the most but that has proven to be very difficult indeed.
A total of around 150-160 should be seen as very competitive batting first. The pitch will continue to be slow, offer turn, and test the batsmen.

This match is not as straightforward as it may seem to be. SRH has lost two matches but its world-class bowling attack always makes it dangerous. MI, on the other hand, has the advantage of stability, players in well-defined roles, and a captain that is brilliant in T20 cricket.
MI also has a very good bowling attack and its superior batting strength helps it get the edge in this contest.
Bet on Mumbai Indians to win.
This is not a match in which we expect too many sixes to be hit, however, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik pandya, Kieron Pollard, and Krunal Pandya make this bet a no-brainer. MI should be able to get more sixes than SRH under most circumstances.
We think this is an excellent bat considering the nature of the Chennai wicket. We have seen a heap of wickets go down during the death overs in the previous two matches and we think it could easily happen once more. The odds make this an attractive bet to make.
