We are just at a stage in Vitality T20 Blast from where all teams that are still in contention will be playing for a playoff spot. A bad result can prove to be the difference between a spot in the playoffs and missing that out by a whisker.
Somerset and Middlesex will be up against each other in one of the next few matches in the tournament. While the match would practically be a dead rubber for Middlesex, it could not be of any more importance for Somerset. The match is to be played on 1st July 2022 at the Lord's Cricket Ground, London.
After a disappointing run last year, Middlesex started this year on a promising note, but their promise didn't last long enough. After being in contention for quite some time, they continued to drop down the ladder and are now fighting hard to avoid the wooden spoon. A win here will push them back into the mid-table muddle, but it certainly won't be enough to push them back into the playoffs race.
As it currently stands on the points table, Middlesex are placed at the eighth spot on the points table in the South Group. They have won just four matches so far from a total of 12 played and have eight points to their name. Their terrible net run-rate of -1.132 just shows how terrible they have been.

Despite missing Babar Azam this season, Somerset have been brilliant right throughout the competition. In fact, given the position they are in at the moment, they are prime candidates to progress to the next round. Having said that, due to the sheer competition in their group, they would need to register a win here to feel a bit safe as far as getting to the knockouts is concerned.
On the points table at the moment, Somerset are placed at the second spot, having won eight out of 12 matches played. Not only are they placed at the second spot with 16 points, they have a decent net run-rate of 0.507, which can prove to be a differentiating factor if it does get to that. If they continue to play as they have in the tournament, stopping them could prove to be a colossal challenge for Middlesex here.

This may be a dead-rubber for Middlesex, they would be desperate to win this one. A loss here would make them prime candidates to grab the wooden spoon and that is exactly what they'll be looking to avoid. Somerset, on the other hand, arguably have a spot in the knockouts at stake and would be coming out all guns blazing. With both sides having something big to play for, this match could prove to be a cracker of a contest. Considering how the two sides have played in the tournament thus far and the on-paper combination of the two sides, a bet on Somerset to emerge on top should be the way to go here. Bet on Somerset to win.
