MID vs SUS Match Prediction & Analysis

With one game washed-out and one tied, Middlesex are still waiting for a chance to get out to grab a win in the middle. They've had two scheduled matches gone by, one of which were washed out due to rain. Up next in the tournament, they are all set to meet Sussex, who have already tasted success. Sussex are coming off a superb win over Hampshire and will be looking to keep their winning run going. The match between Middlesex and Sussex is to be played at the iconic venue of Lord's Cricket Ground, on 1st September 2020.

Team Previews

Middlesex

With one of their matches washed out due to rain and the other one tied, Middlesex Panther will be ruing their luck. Middlesex was in a pretty good position in its first game against Essex is it smacked 184 runs batting first. The rain came soon thereafter and robbed them of what could have been two important points. While Middlesex got to play a complete game subsequently, the game was tied, leaving Middlesex longing for its first win of the competition.

Middlesex have clearly performed well in the department they were weaker in. Without Eoin Morgan and AB de Villiers, Middlesex had a weak batting unit, but given the way Middlesex has done in its first two matches, batting should no longer be a concern. On the contrary, Middlesex's bowling was certainly a strength and their bowlers are still struggling to find form.

Their bowling vulnerabilities were apparent when Kent made a mockery of their 209 run total. Batting first Middlesex hammered a total of 209 runs, which was almost chased down by the Spitfires with remarkable ease. James Harris, in particular was expensive, as he gave away 45 runs in his three overs. Steven Finn and Nathan Sowter, however, bowled pick and picked up four wickets together. They have a wide array of options available in the bowling department and if their bowling comes good, not many teams would have a chance against this solid Middlesex side.

Middlesex Playing 11

Max Holden, Stephen Eskinazi, Martin Andersson, Nick Gubbins, John Simpson, Dan Lincoln, James Harris, Luke Hollman, Thomas Helm, ST Finn, Nathan Sowter.

Sussex

Sussex is one of the most formidable team in the competition. It has been one of the most consistent side over the years and despite missing a few bowlers, Sussex appears to be a strong unit. Sussex had a phenomenal campaign last year as it topped the South Group points table. Their winning juggernaut was unfortunately stopped at the first knock-out where they were defeated by Worcestershire Rapids.

Last year, Sussex won eight matches out of fourteen and will be looking to produce a similar performance this time as well. Despite a wash-out in a match that should have been easy for them, Sussex would not be too disappointed. They raced to a superb win in their second match and are currently sitting at the top of the South Group table.

Chasing a total of 177, Sussex rode on Luke Wright's brilliant knock of 82 to hand Hampshire a big defeat. Luke Wright was ably assisted by Phil Salt as the Sussex's opening pair added 89 runs for the opening wicket in just eight overs. With a couple of quick wickets towards the end, Hampshire opened the gates for them, but David Wiese ensured Sussex's win. Wiese played an unbeaten knock of 43.

Earlier with the ball, Sussex's bowlers were excellent. Playing without Rashid Khan and Reece Topley, Sussex's bowling attack was under the scanner. George Gardon got rid of George Munsey on only the second delivery of the match. Danny Briggs got three wickets in quick succession to reduce Hants to 88 for 5 and put Sussex in control. The control didn't last for long as Ian Holland and James Fuller stitched a brilliant partnership for Hants, which Sussex failed to break. Ollie Robinson, Sussex's most successful bowler was smashed all across the ground as he returned with the figures of 4-0-47-0. Barring Danny Briggs, who conceded just 17 runs and picked up three wickets in the process, all Sussex bowlers proved to be expensive.

Going forward in the tournament, Sussex's death bowling will be a huge cause of concern for their management and fan alike. If they can get that sorted, they have a batting that might alone be enough to power them to victory even against the best sides in the competition.
