The Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder are the only unbeaten teams in BBL 09 right now and that is why they are right at the top of the league standings. The Adelaide Strikers won a very important match against the Melbourne Stars in their previous outing and showed they mean business this season.
The Strikers are now going to be traveling to the Docklands Stadium to play against the other Melbourne team in the Big Bash, the Melbourne Renegades. The defending champions have suffered three consecutive defeats to start their campaign and are currently dead last on the BBL league table.
This is the first game that the Renegades are going to play at their ‘real’ home venue and would like to start with a win.
Melbourne Renegades vs Adelaide Strikers BBL 09 is going to be played at the Docklands Stadium, Melbourne on the 29th of December 2019.
The Melbourne Renegades suffered another batting failure against the Hobart Hurricanes in their previous match and ended up not having enough runs on the board to defend. This is not something that can continue to take place if the Melbourne Renegades need to start winning consistently.
Sam Harper seems like a slogger at this point in time and the chances of him succeeding are always slim. It is going to happen but it is not going to happen often enough. All of the other frontline batsmen for the Renegades got starts in the previous match. Aaron Finch got 50, Shaun Marsh 37, and Marcus Harris 37 but all of their strike rates were under 135.
The Renegades need to play freely after they get set because they are not getting enough runs in the end.
Matches like the ones that the Renegades played out against the Hurricanes are a good indication that a side is about to get things right. All of the major batsmen have had a decent amount of time in the middle and it is just a matter of getting the tempo higher.
Kane Richardson is the lone bowler who is performing for the Renegades right now and this problem is going to harder to fix. Richard Gleeson and Harry Gurney are struggling in the BBL and we think it is time for a change. We have a feeling that Gleeson is not going to be playing the next match for the Melbourne Renegades.
Beau Webster and Cameron Boyce also need to get their act together for the Renegades bowling to be more effective.
Sam Harper, Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, Marcus Harris, BJ Webster, DT Christian, Will Sutherland, Cameron Boyce, KW Richardson, Richard Gleeson, Harry Gurney.
Jonathan Wells continued his brilliant form in BBL 09 as he made the most of a sloppy fielding effort from the Melbourne Stars. He scored 68 not out to help the Adelaide Striker reach 174, a total that proved to be enough by 4 runs in the end.
Alex Carey provided the support that JonathanWells needed in the middle as the other Adelaide batsmen failed to deliver.
Jake Weatherald started like a runaway train but threw away his wicket after smashing four boundaries in the first six balls he faced. Philip Salt has not made an impact on the BBL until now and Matthew Short has struggled at number three also.
The Adelaide Strikers are up against a Melbourne Renegades side that is struggling, particularly the bowling unit, but they should still be a little wary of losing early wickets. Not every team is going to offer them repeated chances and the cost of having such a short batting lineup could be heavy.
Rashid Khan has been very good in the matches he has played so far and been well supported by the other bowlers as well. Billy Stanlake would have liked more wickets to his name but his extra pace is always testing. Peter Siddle kept his nerve and picked up three crucial wickets to win the Adelaide Strikers in he previous match.
The bowling is not a problem for the Adelaide Strikers. We just wonder for how long can they continue to get away with such a short batting lineup.
Philip Salt, Jake Weatherald, Matthew Short, Alex Carey, JW Wells, CL White, Rashid Khan, Peter Siddle, WA Agar, Billy Stanlake, Cameron Valente.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first.

The rain is expected to keep away from Melbourne on match day although there are some clouds around. The pitch at the Docklands stadium is good for batting but a little on the slower side. The boundaries here encourage big-hitting and we usually some high-scoring matches at the venue.
This is the first match of the season at the venue and so we should see a pitch that is very good for batting.

We think the Melbourne Renegades are going to get off their losing streak in this match. Their batting has been threatening to explode and this might be the match for them to do so. The Adelaide Strikers have a stronger bowling attack, though, and are going to be in contention for sure. The match is going to be decided between the Melbourne batting and the Adelaide bowling.
Bet on the Melbourne Renegades to win.
