The two teams with the worst Big Bash record to their name this season are going to be playing against each other. We are speaking about the Melbourne Renegades and the Perth Scorchers. Both the teams have underperformed expectations and are hugging the bottom of the ladder right now.
There is still time for the two teams to turn things around and contend for a place in the playoffs, thanks to the new extended format. It is not going to be easy and this is one of the games that both teams will be targeting for a win.
The Melbourne Renegades have lost six out of the six matches they have played while the Perth Scorchers have won two out of the six they have played. Neither team is in great form heading into this contest.
Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers BBL 09 is going to be played at the Simonds Stadium, Geelong on the 7th of January 2020.
The defending champions of the Big Bash are having a horror BBL 09 as they have slumped from one defeat to another. Even their worst critics would not have expected them to lose six matches in a row, especially with Aaron Finch available for all of them.
Australia’s limited-overs tour to India is going to start very soon and that will mean no more Finch at the top of the order for the Renegades.
Aaron Finch has been in decent touch and got another start in the previous game but the really big score has eluded him. The same has been true for Shaun Marsh as well who is the highest scorer for the Melbourne Renegades and one of the highest scorers in the entire BBL. His strike rate has left a lot to be desired as we have seen the batsmen with the most impact take things to another level in BBL 09.
Sam Harper, Tom Cooper, and Dan Christian have struggled to have any impact with the bat which leaves the Melbourne Renegades pretty vulnerable in the batting. Beau Webster has been effective in a few matches but he is unlikely to be winning too many matches for the Renegades.
The bowling attack has also struggled similarly. Kane Richardson has been very good but without adequate support, he also seems to be trying a bit too hard in recent games. Richard Gleeson, Will Sutherland, Cameron Boyce, and Tom Andrews do not make a fearsome bowling lineup.
Aaron Finch, Marcus Harris, Sam Harper, Shaun Marsh, BJ Webster, DT Christian, SR Patel, Will Sutherland, Cameron Boyce, KW Richardson, Richard Gleeson.
The Perth Scorchers came into BBL 09 with a side that had been rebuilt massively. The going seems to be a bit tough as the Perth Scorchers have not been able to find their best combinations so far. The batting lineup for the Scorchers has also been struggling much like the Melbourne Renegades.
Liam Livingstone has shown just how dangerous he can be at the top of the order but he has not been consistent enough to make a real difference. Josh Inglis and Cameron Bancroft have struggled for form leaving the bulk of the work to be done by Mitchell Marsh.
Ashton Turner was supposed to be one of the leading batsmen for the Perth Scorchers but he has actually been dropped from the side after a string of poor scores. We would have liked to see him back in the side for this match but that is unlikely to happen.
Cameron Green has been impressive for the Perth Scorchers and could get a run higher up in the batting order.
Where the Perth Scorchers have an advantage over the Melbourne Renegades is with the bowling attack. Fawad Ahmed and Ashton Agar are two excellent spinners that are sure to challenge the Renegades batsmen in Geelong.
Jhye Richardson and Matthew Kelly bowl at a lively pace and test the batsmen with some disconcerting bounce while Chris Jordan is an expert at bowling yorkers at the death.
The Perth Scorchers batsmen also struggle when the ball does not come on to the bat which is what we are likely to see in Geelong.

The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first to get an idea of how the pitch is going to behave.

There is only a very slight chance of rain that has been forecast in Geelong for match day. The pitch is going to be drop-in and that means we could see a low-scoring match. Most of the drop-in surfaces have had a significant amount of help for the spinners and that is what we expect for this match. The ball is not going to come on to the bat and a total of about 150 is going to be hard to chase down.

Neither of the two teams enjoys playing on a slow-turner but of the two teams, it is the Perth Scorchers that has the better bowlers for such a surface. The batting unit for both the teams has been struggling in the tournament so there is not too much to choose between the teams in this regard either.
Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
