MLR vs PER Match Prediction & Analysis

We are finally off to a Big Bash League and the start to the tournament has been terrific. Hobart Hurricanes defied all odds after being in a difficult position to topple Sydney Sixers. In the second match of the tournament, Melbourne Stars rampaged past Brisbane Heat in a relatively single-street contest.

The upcoming match, which is to be played between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers has all the ingredients for yet another exciting contest. Even though the historical stats are a little tilted towards the Scorchers, the Renegades won't be an easy side to beat considering the changes they've done this year. The match between the two sides is to be played between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers at Bellerive Oval, Hobart, on 12th December 2020.

Team Previews

Melbourne Renegades

One thing that works for the Renegades is that the only way they have after their terrible performance last year is up. It was rather strange to see them go down so easily last year as they won the title just a year before that. They struggled in both the departments of the game, but they seem to have addressed most of the issues that cropped up during their dismal run last year.

Compared to their last year's team, they have a few changes this year. Additionally, there are likely to be some late joinings due to the pandemic. They have roped in Imad Wasim, Josh Lalor to buff up their bowling. In addition to that, having the likes of Rilee Rossouw in the middle-order will give a huge boost to their batting, which looked a little out of sorts last year.

On paper, the Renegades have a terrific squad. However, not all of their players will be available in the opening match and that could be a cause of concern for them. Aaron Finch, who had been in terrific form, will likely sit out of the first few matches. Also, the absence of Mohammad Nabi in the earlier matches could have a telling impact as well.

All in all, the Renegades are coming off a poor campaign last year and will have a point to prove. They have buffed up their team this year, but the absence of a few key players in the first few matches can set them back. If they can play to their potential, there's no reason of why they can't start off on a winning note.

Perth Scorchers

Perth Scorchers didn't play as badly last year as their position on the points table reflects. They were in a strong position to qualify at one time, but missing out on a few key moments cost them a playoff spot. Barring a few changes, their squad is pretty much the same as that of last year, but with Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye fit again, Perth Scorchers will be fancying their chances.

With Liam Livingstone and Jason Roy set to sit out at least till Christmas, the Scorchers are certainly in a spot of bother as far as their openers are concerned. They have roped in Colin Munro and Joe Clarke, who both had a decent runs in the T20s they've played of late, but replacing Livingstone and Roy is a massive ask. Another important void they have is left by the absence of Cameron Green, who is selected to be in Australia's squad for tests against India.

At one moment, there was something about the Scorchers that they were the most successful team of the tournament. However, they have been dismal in the last three years, winning just 18 of their last 39 matches. While their batting did well last year, their bowling struggled to contain the opponents' batsmen. With Tye and Behrendorff up and roaring, the Scorchers will certainly be looking to put their recent past behind them and get off to a flying start.

MLR vs PER Betting Tips

Historically, the Scorchers have been a more successful team in the head-to-head encounters between the two sides. While they have lost a lot of good players in recent years, their team looks well-balanced this time around. On the contrary, the Renegades are likely to have a hard time with their key players absent for the first few matches. The likes of Ashton Turner, Mitchell March, and Cameron Bancroft can be difficult to deal with for any bowling attack, and having those players is the biggest advantage that the Scorchers have. In addition to that, they have hard-hitting batsmen coupled with experienced bowlers available. For those reasons, betting on Perth Scorchers' win should be the way to go in this all-important encounter.
