The defending champions of the Big Bash League, the Melbourne Renegades, are the only team to not have won a single match in this edition of the BBL. Four losses from four matches have put the Melbourne Renegades right at the bottom of the league table.
The Renegades are going to be starting the New Year with a contest against the Sydney Sixers, a team that has been outliving expectations regularly. The Sydney Sixers won their previous match in a heart-stopping Super-Over thriller and now have three wins from their five matches.
Will the Sixers continue to pile on the misery for the Melbourne Renegades?
Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Sixers BBL 09 is going to be played at the Docklands Stadium, Melbourne on the 2nd of January 2020.
The Melbourne Renegades had plenty of opportunities to win their previous match against the Adelaide Strikers. They had the Strikers at 132 for four with all recognized batsmen in the hut but then ended going the distance against Rashid Khan.
Similarly, at 88 for 2 in the thirteenth over in a chase of 156, the Melbourne Renegades ended up self-destructing and slipped to 100 for 6.
This lack of basic game awareness is something that is just astounding from a team filled with so many seasoned internationals.
Shaun Marsh is among the leading BBL run-scorers right now but that has not translated too many wins. Marsh needs to up his strike-rate a little and ensure he is making more of an impact while in the middle. Aaron Finch is also in the runs and that could mean a big inning is around the corner.
Marcus Harris, Same Harper, and Dan Christian have been terrible with the bat so far.
Kane Richardson has 8 wickets to his name to be the best bowler by far for the Melbourne Renegades. This is not a big surprise but a little more support from the other bowlers would have been handy.
Richard Gleeson, Harry Gurney, Cameron Boyce, and Dan Christian are not effective enough to make the Melbourne Renegades a potent bowling force.
Sam Harper, Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, Marcus Harris, BJ Webster, DT Christian, Will Sutherland, Cameron Boyce, TD Andrews, KW Richardson, Richard Gleeson.
The Sydney Sixers have found a way to keep winning matches in this season of the BBL even when all seemed lost. Tom Curran won them a match in which they were completely out through some late-order hitting and some brilliant bowling.
Consider these stats. Josh Philippe is the highest run-scorer for the Sydney Sixers right now with 140 runs, 8th overall in BBL 09. Not a single other Sydney Sixer Batsman is in the top-10. There best batsmen have not yet hit the right kind of form as Daniel Hughes, Moises Henriques, and Jordan Silk are all struggling to find some form.
The experiment with Hayden Kerr has also not shown its benefits just yet.
The Sydney Sixers, though, still have the most runs scored as a team in the entire BBL 09 so far. Sean Abbott leads the wicket-taking charts and Tom Curran is in the top-5 as well. Lloyd Pope has been one of the more economical bowlers in the league so far while Jackson Bird has had his good moments.
The Sydney Sixers may not have many stand-out performers individually but seem to be greater than the sum of individual parts.
Josh Philippe, Daniel Hughes, J Vince, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Jack Edwards, Tom Curran, B Dwarshuis, Benjamin Manenti, JM Bird, Lloyd Pope.

No rain has been forecast in Melbourne on match day although that may not be such a bad thing for a region struggling with bushfires. The pitch at Docklands was decent for batting although 155 ended up being a winning score on the only match played there so far.
We think the teams will be better prepared for the conditions this time around and get some better totals.
Dream11 tips and Dream11 prediction for Melbourne renegades vs Sydney Sixers
Most Sixes Scored in the Match: Melbourne Renegades ($1.90)
Shaun Marsh and Beau Webster have six sixes each to their name while no one in the Sydney Sixers camp has more than five. Aaron Finch and Sam Harper can also clear the boundaries on their day pretty easily.
Team with Top Bowler in the Match: Sydney Sixers ($1.90)
Sean Abbot has 11 wickets to his name, the most in BBL 09 right now, and Tom Curran has 8. Kane Richardson has 8 wickets to his name as well but he is the only real threat in the Melbourne Renegades bowling attack. The Sydney Sixers could play him out sensibly.
Total Run-Outs in the Match: Over 1.5 ($3.25)
The return on this bet makes it an attractive one. Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, Moises Henriques, and Daniel Hughes are all not known for their running. These are also two weak batting sides and so the lower-order could get some decent batting time. All of these things point towards the potential of at least a couple of run-outs that could win you the bet.
