MLR vs SYD Match Prediction - Dec 30, 2022

It is double header season in the Big Bash and the Melbourne renegades will be taking on the Sydney Sixers for the second time in a row. The previous match was won by the Sydney Sixers by a big margin and they are the favorites at all the best cricket betting sites heading into this contest as well.

The Renegades have now lost their previous two matches and would like to arrest this slide in their form.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Sixers BBL 2022-23. The match will be played at Simonds Stadium, Geelong on the 30th of December 2022.

MLR vs SYD Team Previews

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades have added Martin Guptill to their squad as batting reinforcement and that could not have come at a better time. He scored a duck in the previous match but is still a genuine force to be reckoned with in T20 cricket. The return of Shaun Marsh is also very welcome news for the Renegades that really need to find a way to be more consistent with the bat.

Finch suffered a serious blow to his finger and is doubtful of his participation in this match. We still don't like the batting lineup of the Renegades. It is filled with players that are either at the end of their careers (Marsh, Finch, Guptill) or those that have never quite delivered on their promise (Maddinson, Wells, and Handscomb).

Not having Andre Russell is also a massive loss.

The bowling lineup for the Renegades is excellent but it has not been enough to get it wins so far. Akeal Hosein, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Kane Richardson, and Will Sutherland form a truly world-class bowling lineup.

Melbourne Renegades Playing 11

Nic Maddinson, Martin Guptill, Shaun Marsh, Aaron Finch, Jonathan Wells, Peter Handscomb, Akeal Hosein, Will Sutherland, Thomas Rogers, Kane Richardson, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Sydney Sixers

Ben Dwarshius picked up four wickets for just 17 runs in the previous match against the Renegades. He was the best bowler for the Sydney Sixers by a large margin. Jackson Bird, Sean Abbott, and Hayden Kerr all had a great game as well.

Things are just falling back into place for the Sydney Sixers and it looks like the most successful franchise in the history of Big Bash cricket is finally finding its mojo. Josh Philippe scored 55 valuable runs in the previous match, Moises Henriques scored runs in the match before last, and James Vince is also getting starts.

There may not be any exciting or young superstars in the Sixers' lineup but having an experienced set of players that are used to playing with each other and know their roles perfectly is a huge advantage.

The Sydney Sixers are going to be hard to beat for sure.

Pitch and Conditions

There is no rain predicted in Geelong on match day. The temperatures have been inching towards the late twenties degrees centigrade, considered to be quite hot by Australian standards. The previous match played at Geelong saw the Renegades chase down 137 but with a fair bit of huffing and puffing.

The pitch is a bit slow and does not really favor the batters. We think something around 150-160 is going to be very hard to chase down.

MLR vs SYD Betting Tips

We think the Sydney Sixers are the better T20 lineup when compared to the Melbourne Renegades. There is no doubt that the batting lineup of the Sixers is stronger while both teams have a strong bowling unit. The experience of playing together and better recent form tilts things in favor of the Sydney Sixers.

Bet on the Sydney Sixers to win.
