The Melbourne Renegades are having a terrible time in the BBL this season and right in the bottom half of the standings. They have lost their previous four matches, including their most recent one that they dominated for the majority before losing their way in the end.
This is not the best time then to come up against the form team of the Big Bash so far, Sydney Thunder. With four wins from five matches, Sydney Thunder has been extremely impressive and could go to the top of the table with a win in this match.
Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder is going to be played at the Carrara Oval, Queensland on the 1st of January 2020.
The Melbourne Renegades are going to be gutted after losing their previous match. That was a game in which most of the things they did went right. Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh scored runs at the top, Kane Richardson bowled beautifully upfront, Mohammad Nabi seemed to have rediscovered his touch with both the bat and ball, and even Imad Wasim bowled beautifully.
It can be difficult to win close games when you are in poor form and that is exactly what happened. Aaron Finch made some bizarre bowling choices as he trusted Will Sutherland in the crucial overs and paid the price.
The Renegades must hope that everything that they did in the previous match comes good again and they get the little things right as well.
We still believe that the batting lineup of the Renegades is too brittle. Finch is in poor form and if he and Shaun Marsh go early, the rest of the batting could just follow after.
Will Sutherland’s bowling is a bit of a concern as well and it will be interesting to see if the Renegades persist with him in this match or look for someone different. The Carrara Oval offers something to the spinners and Imad Wasim and Mohammad Nabi may have another good game.

Sydney Thunder has a very good lineup of young players and has been our favorite team to watch this season. Alex Hales joined the party in the previous match with the fastest 50 ever for Sydney Thunder. Usman Khawaja is still not at his best but he will benefit from the time he spent in the middle in the previous match.
Callum Ferguson is striking the ball the best we have seen him do so and the powerful middle-order is performing well too. Oliver Davies, Sam Billings, Daniel Sams, and Ben Cutting are all superb strikers of the ball and can take advantage of the power surge wherever they come in.
Even Chris Green struck the ball very well in his short stay at the crease in the previous game.
The batting is far stronger than what the Melbourne Renegades have, no doubt.
Tanveer Sangha has been the find of the Big Bash so far with his accurate leg-spin bowling. He took two wickets while Chris Green picked up four wickets to hit some fine form as well. Daniel Sams, Adam Milne, Chris Tremain, and Ben Cutting are all very good pacers and give Sydney Thunder a lot of options at all stages of the game.
This team has everything it needs to make a run for the title this season.
Usman Khawaja, AD Hales, Callum Ferguson, Oliver Davies, Sam Billings, Daniel Sams, Ben Cutting, Christopher Green, Nathan McAndrew, CP Tremain, Tanveer Sangha.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. The previous match played at the Carrara Oval was own by the team fielding first and so that may be the strategy to follow once more.

There is no rain predicted for the match day and so we should have no interruptions. The pitch is going to be a bit slower than the previous match and we think the spinners are going to have more of a say.
That being said, there are still plenty of opportunities for the batsmen to score freely after getting their eye in and to take advantage of the smallish boundaries.
We have to go with the form team in this contest and think Sydney Thunder is the team to back. It has a very well-balanced team, a stronger batting lineup, and a bowling attack that seems to have all the bases covered. The Melbourne Renegades are in poor form and have a lot of clear weaknesses to exploit.
Bet on Sydney Thunder to win.
