Sydney Thunder started their BBL 09 with fantastic performance and a bit of an unexpected win against Brisbane Heat. That was the first time that Sydney Thunder had won a game at the Gabba in BBL history and the fact that it came because of a massive contribution from their captain would have made it all the sweeter.
Sydney Thunder will now play against the Melbourne Renegades, the current champions of the Big Bash and one of the more favored teams this season as well. The Renegades have made very few changes to their title winning squad from the previous season although it will have the services of Aaron Finch for longer than expected.
Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder BBL 2019-20 is going to be played at Simonds Stadium, Geelong on the 19th of December 2019.
The Melbourne Renegades are going to start their title defense at the Simonds Stadium, Geelong, a venue that will host a total of two matches this season. The batting lineup for the Melbourne Renegades has undergone a massive upgrade this Big Bash.
Aaron Finch is no longer a part of the test side and is going to be available for the duration of the test summer. Marcus Harris is also in the same boat so that’s two more international players available for a large chunk of the season.
The Renegades have also traded Cameron White away while acquiring Shaun Marsh. The senior Marsh brother is a Big Bash legend and is motivated to try and prove his worth. He is going to be a big plus for the Renegades.
Add Tom Cooper, Sam Harper, and Mohammad Nabi into the mix and you have a batting unit that is powerful and has depth.
Dan Christian and Jack Wildermuth look likely to be in the playing eleven as fast bowling all-rounders.
Kane Richardson is one of the best T20 bowlers in the country and is going to lead the bowling attack alongside Harry Gurney, Joe Mennie, and possibly Cameron Boyce.
Aaron Finch, Sam Harper, Shaun Marsh, BJ Webster, TLW Cooper, DT Christian, JD Wildermuth, Cameron Boyce, KW Richardson, Richard Gleeson, Harry Gurney.
We were concerned about the batting of Sydney Thunder ahead of the first match but Callum Ferguson played a brilliant inning to get his side to a competitive total. The skipper took his time early on and then found the boundaries towards the end.
Usman Khawaja looked in supreme touch at the top of the order before being caught off the short ball. That is a mode of dismissal that has followed him around for the duration of his career and we don’t think there is any respite from the short ball in store for him.
Alex Hales, Matthew Gilkes, and Alex Ross were unable to get going in the first match. Take Ferguson’s inning out and you have some real problems in the batting lineup. It is going to take more than just one inning of brilliance to convince us about the depth in this squad.
The bowling attack for Sydney thunder performed very well. Chris green was accurate and economical as ever, Arjun Nair was not afraid to flight the deliveries, while Chris Tremain also kept a tight leash on things.
Daniel Sams was a bit expensive and we thought that Jonathan Cook was lucky to have picked up two wickets.
Sydney Thunder may have started with a win but that has not convinced us abot their long-term prospects in BBL 2019-20.
Usman Khawaja, AD Hales, Callum Ferguson, M Gilkes, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Christopher Green, Arjun Nair, Nathan McAndrew, Jonathan Cook, CP Tremain.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat second to try and have a clear idea of the conditions as well as the target.

The conditions at Geelong should be pretty decent for batting. There has been one international match played here between Australia and Sri Lanka where scores of about 180 were scored in both the inning. The boundaries are a bit on the shorter side so plenty of sixes should be hit as well.
We think this is going to be a high-scoring match and where batting second may be an advantage.
Dream11 Team and Dream11 Prediction for Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder
We like the additions that the Melbourne renegades to the squad. It makes them stronger and they look a better team on paper than the previous season. We think they have the batting strength, the experience, and the bowling unit to win this match pretty comfortably.
Bet on Melbourne Renegades to win.
