MLRW vs BHW Match Prediction - Oct 21, 2022

It was only on October 18th that the Brisbane Heat defeated the Melbourne Renegades by 21 runs… so now we get to see the rematch!

The Heat had fantastic performances from Grace Harris (65 runs) and Georgia Redmayne (98 runs) that the Renegades never had an answer for.

Unfortunately, things don’t get better for Melbourne, with the news that star all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur is out for the entire WBBL season with a back injury.

MLRW vs BHW Team Previews

Melbourne Renegades Women

Poor old Renegades. Losing Harmanpreet Kaur is a tough pill to swallow, especially as she was the Player of the Tournament last season with 406 runs, SR of 130.96, and picking up 15 wickets in 13 matches.

Although the Renegades did have a great win over the Strikers, this latest news regarding their star player gives their title chances a massive hit. There is still major talent in the squad, of course, with Sophie Molineux looking like the team’s best player now. Molineux was superb in the win over Adelaide, making 32 runs (35 deliveries) and also taking 4/23 with the ball.

Although Molineux was bowled for only four runs in the recent loss to the Heat, it’s still encouraging to have a player of her calibre on the roster now that Harmanpreet Kaur is done for the season.

We’ll also have to see much more from opener batter, Hayley Matthews, who has picked up decent totals of 35 and 22 runs in two games so far, but the Renegades will need her to take a bigger role and aim for 50s and 60s. She does have moments with the ball, but she was smashed for 0/40 in the loss to the Heat.

Brisbane Heat Women

It was a surprise to see the Brisbane Heat lose to the Sixers on the opening day of the WBBL, but the team has certainly regrouped since then.

The Heat have cruised past the Stars and Renegades with major wins thanks largely to the batting prowess of none other than Georgia Redmayne. It’s a shame that Redmayne was robbed of a century in the victory over the Renegades, finishing with 98 runs, not out, but she’s still the current runs leader in the WBBL with 180.

Redmayne and Grace Harris are shaping up to be one of the best opening batter pairs in the league. Their combined 163 runs in the latest win is a testament to both of their forms, as they are showing patience and fantastic placement in their shot selections.

There’s also a lot to like with bowlers Jess Jonassen and Amelia Kerr, as they are putting real pressure on batters and not allowing anyone to get into their stride. Jonassen, especially, has already taken five wickets this season and is one of the main X-Factors on the team.

MLRW vs BHW Toss Prediction

Although it’s a good batters’ pitch, Brisbane might want to bowl first and chase a small total from the Renegades.

Pitch and Conditions

Batters tend to love the Karen Rolton Oval because it’s never particularly bouncy and spinners rarely get much turn. The outfield is fast, so the right placement can result in a lot of boundaries.

MLRW vs BHW Betting Tips

Historically, the Heat and Renegades are 7-7 in the matchup, but as things stand now, the Heat are simply too strong a squad.

Brisbane has much better luck when batting second, so it’s likely they’ll try to send in the Renegades to bat first if successful with the toss. The loss of Harmanpreet Kaur is of big significance, and despite Molineux becoming a fine player, the squad is in a bit of disarray for the Renegades now.

With Redmayne leading the Heat, we expect this will be an easy victory for Brisbane that could very well propel them to the top of the ladder.

Bet on Brisbane to win.
