The last three to four matches are all that remain for each team in the WBBL and the fight for the playoffs spot has gotten intense. Brisbane Heat women are the only ones that have locked up one place in the playoffs while there are still five more teams in with a shot for the remaining three spots.
The Melbourne Renegades managed to pull off one of the great upsets of WBBL 05 by beating the Sydney Sixers and almost did the same against Brisbane Heat. They are now going to be playing against their city rivals, the Melbourne Stars, as they try and move up into the qualification zone.
Melbourne Renegades Women vs Melbourne Stars Women WBBL 05 os going to be played at the Eastern Oval, Ballarat on the 23rd of November 2019.
The Melbourne Renegades women had to chase down 153 against the Brisbane Heat women in their previous match and they came very close to doing so. The Renegades fell short by 6 runs in the end as a number of their batters got starts but were unable to convert them into anything significant.
Danielle Wyatt was spectacular at the top of the order as she scored 40 runs off just 18 balls.
She was striking the ball very cleanly and looks likely to get a big score very soon. Tammy Beaumont and Sophie Molineux are the other main batters of this lineup. Both of them have made some good scores in WBBL 05 but the Renegades now need its frontline-trio to start firing consistently.
The Melbourne Renegades have a decent batting lineup but it is not that much better than the Melbourne Stars on paper. The difference is the form and the success of the team.
Molly Strano, Lea Tahuhu, Georgia Wareham, Sophie Molineux, and Danielle Wyatt will be the bowling attack that is tasked with keeping the Melbourne Stars batting order under control. The Stars may be on an extended losing streak but their batting is dangerous and cannot be underestimated.
Tammy Beaumont, Maitlan Brown, Josie Dooley, Jess Duffin, Anna Lanning, Carly Leeson, Molly Strano, Lea Tahuhu, Georgia Wareham, Courtney Webb, Danielle Wyatt.
A decent batting performance in their previous match did not result in a win for the Melbourne Stars women. They batted first against the Perth Scorchers and made 149 runs in their 20 overs. That is a score well-above par and provided a lot of cushion to their bowlers.
Elyse Villani, Lizelle Lee, and Mignon du Preez were all in excellent batting form as they got the side to an aggressive start. The batters to follow were not able to follow up on their performances and did not help the side reach an unassailable total.
The pressure is going to be on these three batters once more in the upcoming match as well.
The Melbourne Stars have a strong top-3 but almost nothing to follow. This lack of depth will prevent the top-order batters from playing freely and also keep the opposition interested at all stages of the match.
The bowling has been a big disappointment for the Melbourne Stars women. They were unable to break the opening partnership against the Perth Scorchers till they were within two runs of the target.
Anabel Sutherland, Holly Ferling, Nicola Hancock, and Madeline Penna have all been very pedestrian in WBBL 05. The lack of any threat with the ball makes the Melbourne Stars a difficult team to bat even keeping its batting talent in mind.

The weather forecast for Ballarat is quite good. We should see a bright and sunny day without any chance of rain interrupting the proceedings. The pitch is going to be a bit of an unknown since this venue has not been used for top-class cricket too often.
The noise from the ground is that the pitch is going to be a bit uneven, which could make life difficult for the batters.
We think that the Melbourne Renegades are the far stronger team in this contest. They also have a strong batting lineup with greater depth than the Stars. The Renegades are a better bowling unit and thus more balanced as a side.
Bet on the Melbourne Renegades women to win.
