MLRW vs SYTW Match Prediction - Nov 06, 2022

Is this a match to be excited about? The worst two teams in the WBBL will face off against each other in what we hope is interesting, even if their records aren’t.

The Thunder and Renegades are both 1-6 for the season, although Sydney has two more points than Melbourne because they had two games cancelled due to bad weather. Neither of these teams has much of a chance of reaching the finals, but right now, they should simply play for pride and convince the fans that they’re worthy of getting better next season.

MLRW vs SYTW Team Previews

Melbourne Renegades Women

After winning a big game against the Strikers on opening night, the Renegades have lost six in a row and are dwelling at the bottom of the ladder. But surely it can’t be this bad all season, right?

Losing star player Harmanpreet Kaur was a tough pill to swallow, but there should still be enough experience on the roster to get some wins. As of now, Carly Leeson is the team’s leading run-scorer, especially after her fantastic 52 against the Sixers.

We’re disappointed with captain Sophie Molineux, who has scored just 28 runs in her last six matches. It’s hard to see her with the captaincy after this season.

There are a few bright spots, as Courtney Webb has shown signs of consistent batting, and the recent addition of Chamari Athapaththu has clearly worked out, showcased by her 75* runs in the loss to the Hurricanes.

Bowling is still the biggest weak spot, even if Molineux is the leading wicket-taker and displays the occasional great display, such as her 2/38 and 2/31 this season. The Renegades do play well sometimes and there have been close matches along the way, so they’re ready for a victory any day now.

Melbourne Renegades Women Playing 11

Chamari Atapattu, Hayley Matthews, Josie Dooley, Sophie Molineux, Courtney Webb, Carly Leeson, Rhiann O' Donnell, S Coyte, Georgia Prestwidge, Ella Hayward, Shabnim Ismail.

Sydney Thunder Women

The Thunder were probably hoping for a better last season for captain Rachel Haynes, but that’s just the way it is. Haynes has actually performed very well with the bat lately, scoring in the 30s consistently and totalling 121 runs in her last four matches.

The team did have a great win over the Scorchers, but it’s been a lot of losses and cancelled games since then. Phoebe Litchfield has been huge for the Thunder, scoring two half-centuries this season and regularly adding double-figure scores to at least push the team closer to a victory.

Tammy Beaumont’s 77* was massive, but she’s made only 15 runs in four matches since then, which makes us wonder if that 77 was just an anomaly.

It’s unfortunate to hear that Amy Jones suffered a back issue and could be done for the season, but otherwise, Hannah Darlington has returned to the side and Lauren Smith is bowling better than ever, picking up a big 5/17 recently.

MLRW vs SYTW Toss Prediction

Melbourne are 5-2 against Sydney when batting first, but 0-7 when batting second. If the Renegades win the toss, you better believe they’re batting first.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch is fairly flat and the ground is a bit smaller than other ovals, so there’s a chance for big totals and batters will love it here.

MLRW vs SYTW Betting Tips

It’s never easy to choose between two teams at the bottom of the ladder, but somehow it looks like the Renegades will get the win here. They’ve won the last two meetings against the Thunder, and the recent form of Chamari Athapaththu and Carly Leeson will give them courage.

The injury to Amy Jones and an inconsistent batting and bowling lineup makes us think that the Thunder won’t have enough power to get a victory here.

Bet on the Renegades to win.
