MLS vs ADS Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 12, 2023
It’s just turning into one of those seasons for the Melbourne Stars, who have lost four out of their previous five games and remain last on the ladder with four points. The Strikers are looking much better with two straight wins after losing three in a row. Adelaide sits comfortably in third place with 10 points.
MLS vs ADS Team Previews
Melbourne Stars
Things don’t get much better for the Stars, as one of the team’s best bowlers, Trent Boult, will leave the BBL in favour of the UAE. Although he took just eight wickets, Boult was still a big name for the team and proved fairly reliable during his tenure.
Along with Glenn Maxwell’s season-ending injury before the start of the BBL campaign, batter Joe Burns (hamstring) is also done for the year, while Marcus Stoinis will be sidelined for a while (also hamstring). If the Stars have any chance of victory, it will come down to Joe Clarke (248 runs), as he’s one of the few batters who seems to have the ability to score big. That said, he’s only made 16 runs in his last three games, so perhaps there’s little motivation for Clarke anymore.
Beau Webster (195) and Hilton Cartwright (217) are chipping in with solid runs. The team’s best bowler, Luke Wood, is performing well with 15 wickets, although his latest stats of 1/41 and 1/34 just aren’t enough to stay competitive for the BBL. Captain Adam Zampa’s eight wickets are also far less than expected.
Melbourne Stars Playing 11
Joe Clarke, Thomas Fraser Rogers, Hilton Cartwright, BJ Webster, Nick Larkin, James Seymour, Clint Hinchliffe, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Luke Wood, Liam Hatcher, Adam Zampa.
Adelaide Strikers
It must be disheartening for Strikers fans to know that the team’s best batter, Chris Lynn, will only play a handful of matches before leaving the team. Lynn leads the BBL in runs made with 393 and was instrumental in the recent victory over the Renegades by scoring 69 from 37 deliveries.
Matt Short (359 runs) will stick around thankfully and is second in the BBL for runs made, so at least there’s the comfort of knowing one star batter remains in Adelaide. Travis Head and Alex Carey are set to return immanently, and the team is getting solid contributions from Adam Hose and Colin de Grandhomme.
Henry Thornton is a reliable bowler with 16 wickets and Wes Agar is great with 13, although we could use fewer overs from Harry Conway, who has only picked up one wicket in three matches and has a terrible ER of 10.50.

Pitch and Conditions
The MCG is a well-regarded pitch that often sees a good balance of batting and bowling. Bowlers can see considerable bounce early on, but later in the contest it seems that batters are able to find their spots and predict the swing.
MLS vs ADS Betting Tips
As the odds for choosing the Stars are good but not great, plus the fact that they’re just too unreliable and can’t seem to get a win, means that we have to pick the Strikers.
The Strikers and Stars historically match up well against each other and are 8-8 overall, so this could be a close game. However, given the recent state of the Stars and knowing that Lynn is still in the team for Adelaide, we’re sure that the Strikers should get an easy victory.
