MLS vs BH Match Prediction - Jan 16, 2023

Although the battle between the two last-placed teams in the BBL is hard to be excited about with the playoffs approaching fast, there should still be some good cricket here with big-name players.

Marcus Stoinis is still likely to miss a few more games for the Stars due to a hamstring injury, but otherwise both squads look to be in fairly decent shape.

MLS vs BH Team Previews

Melbourne Stars

The Stars haven’t quite been the team they wanted to be with Joe Burns and Glenn Maxwell both having season-ending injuries, but you’ve got to love the improved form of Joe Clarke with 283 runs thanks to 23 fours and 11 sixes. Hilton Cartwright’s 233 runs is an amazing boost for Melbourne.

Nathan Coulter-Nile’s 3/17 against the Strikers was a nice surprise recently, and if he and Luke Wood (16 total wickets) can keep up a good bowling attack, then the Stars may not have to flounder at the bottom of the ladder all season.

Melbourne Stars Playing 11

Joe Clarke, Thomas Fraser Rogers, Hilton Cartwright, James Seymour, BJ Webster, Nick Larkin, Clint Hinchliffe, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Luke Wood, Liam Hatcher, Adam Zampa.

Brisbane Heat

The Heat should be better than this, but much of the season has been without Labuschagne, Khawaja, and Renshaw in the lineup due to Australia Test commitments. It may be too late to save the season and reach the top four for the playoffs, but it’s hopefully enough for loyal Heat fans.

Jimmy Peirson (194 runs) and Michael Neser (10 wickets) have probably been performing below expectations, which could be why the Heat haven’t had many wins this season. Losing star player Colin Munro to the UAE likely hurt much more than they would have liked, as he was a forceful batter that could turn the tide at any point.

Brisbane Heat Playing 11

Usman Khawaja, Josh Brown, Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw, Sam Hain, Jimmy Peirson, James Bazley, Michael Neser, Spencer Johnson, Mitchell Swepson, Matthew Kuhnemann.

MLS vs BH Toss Prediction

The Heat are slightly better when batting first against Melbourne, so we wouldn’t be shocked that they’ll keep this up if winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions

The MCG is a very balanced pitch that sees good bounce, which can help both batter and bowler. It may come down to which player is feeling more comfortable on the day.

MLS vs BH Betting Tips

The odds are good for the Heat and they should be rounding into form at just the right moment. Zampa hasn’t been so effective for the Stars and Clarke might be running out of power after having to score so many runs this season.

The Heat have big names on the roster, which is why we trust them slightly more. They simply have to put all that experience and talent to good use and string some wins together, which they can certainly do against the Stars.

Bet on Brisbane to win.
