Contrary to everyone's expectations, Melbourne Stars suffered two consecutvie defeats in their last two matches. The two losses, however, would still not be worrying them much considering that they didn't field their full-strength sides in those matches. They'll be up against Brisbane Heat in their upcoming match and considering that it is going to be the last league match for the Stars, they'll want to register a win here. For Brisbane Heat, the importance of win is even more as the their qualification chances hinge on the result of this match. A win for them will still keep them in the hunt whereas a loss will mean an exit for the Heat. The match between the two sides is to be played on the evening of 25th January at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Earlier in the tournament, Melbourne Stars made headlines by picking Haris Rauf earlier in the tournament as Rauf did exceedingly well in the tournament and played a massive role in Stars' success up until now. Now that Rauf has left the squad to play against Bangladesh for Pakistan, the Stars have plucked Dilbar Hussain out of nowhere.
Athough Stars are coming on the back of two losses, they would not be too worried about it. They had a pretty good run in the tournament, but their bowling was left a little fragile with Haris Rauf departing for Pakistan and two of their main bowlers rested. We are likely to see them field a full-strength lineup and beating them is going to take some work.

Brisbane Heat have had a strange sort of tournament so far. In the matches they have won, they have been brilliant with their batting taking them to places. However, its been the same batting that has caused them trouble. They are currently in a delicate position as far as qualifying to the next round is concerned and are likely to come out all guns blazing.
Despite having the stalwarts like Chris Lynn, Tom Banton, Max Bryant, and AB de Villiers, it has been strange to see Brisbane Heat struggling with the bat. Their poor performance with the bat has impacted their performance with the ball as well. It's high time that they get their act together and start performing before it is too late.
Ben Cutting, Sam Heazlett, Chris Lynn, AB de Villiers, Matt Renshaw, Marnus Labuschagne, Jack Prestwidge, James Pattinson, Mitchell Swepson, Ben Laughlin, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
While it is an insignificant match for one team, the importance of this match cannot be overstated for the other. Brisbane Heat have no one but themselves to blame for their situation and their batting would have to do extremely well to take them out from the pit they have dug for themselves. It won't be easy for them as Melbourne Stars will be itching to get back to the winning ways with playoffs round the corner. Considering the performance of the two sides in the tournament, Melbourne Stars are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter.
