The Hobart Hurricanes are going to play their first Big Bash League match in a week. They were able to win five out of their first six matches and have established themselves as the strongest team of the tournament.
The Hobart Hurricanes were also the biggest beneficiaries of some selection changes by the Australian national selectors. They are going to have some of their best players available for the rest of BBL 08, something that definitely comes as a surprise.
The Hobart Hurricanes are going to playing against the Melbourne Stars in this match. Unlike their opponents, the Melbourne Stars are going to be without their best players for this match as well. The Stars have lost their last two matches and this upcoming match is going to be difficult for them to win as well.
The Melbourne Stars have now played two matches without Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Glenn Maxwell. Unsurprisingly, they have lost both of those matches. Without these three players, the Melbourne Stars are weakened considerably.
Ben Dunk is the one player that has taken the opportunity to score some runs in the previous two matches. His form is going to be encouraging for the Melbourne Stars. It was not too long ago when Dunk was the leading scorer of the Big Bash and leading his side to victory.
We believe that he will have to do something special if the Melbourne Stars are to win this match.
The rest of the batting looks quite underwhelming.
Evan Gulbis, Nic Maddinson, and Seb Gotch are the other players that are expected to be in the top-4. Nic Maddinson is perhaps the only player out of these four that can be counted as one of the better batsmen in Australia.
The batting problems for Melbourne Stars are also increased due to the lack of runs that Dwayne Bravo has got. The West Indian all-rounder has been unable to score runs when he has got the opportunity to bat in the middle, which has not been too often either. This means that he is out of touch and lacking batting time in the middle.
For some strange reason, Nick Larkin was pushed down the order in the last match even though he had been playing well up the order in previous matches. The Melbourne Stars cannot afford to move their in-form players around because they just don’t have the batting riches to do so.
The bowling unit of Michael Beer, Scott Boland, Liam Plunkett, and Dwayne Bravo is looking pretty underwhelming as well. We don’t like the look of the Melbourne Stars right now especially when pitted against the Hobart Hurricanes.
Evan Gulbis, Ben Dunk, N Larkin, Nic Maddinson, Sebastian Gotch, Dwayne Bravo, Jonathan Merlo, LE Plunkett, JM Bird, Tom O'Connell, Liam Bowe.
The strongest side of the BBL so far would be pleased to have the services of its best players for the entire tournament. Darcy Short, Ben McDermott, and Matthew Wade were all in line to be picked for the Australian national side but were not.
Darcy Short is the second highest scorer of the Big Bash so far and has led the Hobart Hurricanes to a few victories already. His opening partnership with Matthew Wade is the most destructive one in the Big Bash and poses a massive threat to the opposition.
The bowling attack of the Melbourne Stars is quite weak and we can easily see one of these two players to go and score some more runs. Betting on one of them to be the highest scorer seems like a good option to us right now.
There is plenty of batting to follow these two as well. Alex Doolan, George Bailey, Ben McDermott, and Simon Milenko have all been in good form. There was some doubt about how the side would respond to an early loss of wickets but that was also laid to rest in the last match.
George Bailey and Ben McDermott showed that the Hobart Hurricanes don’t have anything to fear and that their top order can continue to play with freedom. The bowling for the Hobart Hurricanes has also been quite good.
Jofra Archer and James Faulkner are two of the leading wicket-takers in the BBL. They have been effective in the powerplay as well as at the end of the inning. With Johan Botha, Clive Rose, and a few overs from Darcy Short, the Hobart Hurricanes have a lot of spin options as well.
We think it is going to take something really catastrophic for the Hobart Hurricanes to lose this match.
Matthew Wade, D'Arcy Short, Ben McDermott, GJ Bailey, Simon Milenko, James Faulkner, Johan Botha, Jofra Chioke Archer, Clive Rose, Riley Meredith, J Doran.

The BBL 08 match between the Melbourne Stars and the Hobart Hurricanes is going to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne. The weather forecast for match day is excellent. There is next to no chance of rain predicted.
The pitch at the MCG will be good for batting, although it is a bit on the slower side. A score of around 170 should be considered par, especially if the Hobart Hurricanes bat first.
The Hobart Hurricanes go into this match as firm favorites and even though there is a little less value in it, we advise in backing them to win. The Melbourne Stars have to do something really special to able to win this and we don’t see it happening.
Back the Hobart Hurricanes to win.
