Melbourne Stars are without Glenn Maxwell for the time being and without him, their batting seems a bit underpowered. They were rolled over for just 122 in their opening match and although they came very close to defending that, the team would be worried after that performance.
Joe Clarke and Marcus Stoinis are the big names in this lineup. Clarke can be very aggressive up top and we all know what Stoinis is capable of. Here is the thing, though. Stoinis has been the most successful while opening the batting in the BBL. For Australia, he plays a different role in the middle order (which is where he batted in the first match) and that may not be the best idea.
Tom Rogers, Nick Larkin, Joe Burns, and Hilton Cartwright are all good domestic players but we have not seen them dominate the BBL in the past and to bet on that happening this time around seems a bit unwise.
The biggest strength that the Stars have is their bowling unit. Adam Zampa is in terrific touch and now has Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Beau Webster for company. Boult with the new ball could be one of the real enforcers in this edition of the Big Bash League.

Hobart Hurricanes
The Hobart Hurricanes will be playing their first match and so we do not quite know what the exact playing eleven they will go with but looking at the squad gives us a fair idea. The Hurricanes are loaded in the batting department. Ben McDermott, Darcy Short, and Zak Crawley could be their top 3 followed by Tim David, Matthew Wade, and possibly Asif Ali in the middle order.
This is a serious batting lineup with quality and power all throughout. You would always want an extra 20 runs while setting a target for the Hurricanes and that will end up benefitting their bowlers as well.
The bowling lineup is also quite strong. Riley Meredith and Nathan Ellis have been so successful for the Hurricanes in the past and will lead the attack once more. They also have big Billy Stanlake in the squad to back them up. The depth in the fast bowling resources is brilliant and that could be a big advantage in this contest.

Pitch and Conditions
The conditions in Melbourne are expected to be excellent for cricket. There is no rain predicted and we should not have any interruptions.
