Our "Prediction Wizard" will calculate, based on the current available betting odds, the implicit winning percentages for the possible outcomes in a match. This will be updated as soon as we fetch the odds from the betting sites and keep updating until the match is finished.
The Big Bash League table is very tight and there are seven teams in contentions to make the BBL playoffs. The Melbourne Stars and the Perth Scorchers who are going to play against each other next are right in the thick of things.
The Perth Scorchers have bought themselves a little bit of breathing room with a win against the Hobart Hurricanes but they cannot relax just yet. As far as the Melbourne Stars go, they have to try and win both their remaining matches otherwise they could be left short of the points needed to qualify.
Every single point matters from here on in.
Melbourne Stars vs Perth Scorchers BBL 2020-21 is going to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne on the 23rd of January 2021.
The Melbourne Stars are up against a tough ask. Their last two games are against the top-2 teams of the competition right now. As they say, though, to be the best you have to beat the best!
The batting has not fired for the Melbourne Stars this season. Andre Fletcher has been more miss than hit at the top of the order and even Marcus Stoinis has been unable to really get going. The brilliant form that Glenn Maxwell was carrying at the beginning of the tournament was always going to pass at some time and it looks like he is in a bit of a rut as well.
Getting enough runs to win against the strong Perth Scorchers bowling attack is not going to be easy. Nick Larkin and Nic Maddinson have shown some good signs in the past few matches and so hopefully the Stars can bank on them for some runs as well.
Adam Zampa and Zahir Khan are going to be the biggest weapons for the Stars bowling lineup. They should have conditions that suit their bowling and a lineup to bowl at that is not the most comfortable against slow bowling.
Glenn Maxwell should get a fair bit of bowling in as well. Liam Hatcher and Nathan Coulter-Bile are the two pacers likely to be in the side.
Marcus Stoinis, Nic Maddinson, N Larkin, Glenn Maxwell, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Hilton Cartwright, Sebastian Gotch, Adam Zampa, Billy Stanlake, Zahir Khan, Clint Hinchliffe.
There is no doubt that the Perth Scorchers are a better T20 unit than the Melbourne Stars. They have more power and depth in their batting, their fast bowling resources are better, and then even have a very good wrist-spinner to help them balance out things.
The challenge for the Scorchers in this match is going to be to adapt to the conditions. They must find a way to be able to be effective on the slower wicket of the MCG. That is where their batsmen, especially Roy and Livingstone, may have a bit of trouble.
Mitchell Marsh has returned but he and Ashton Turner also struggle against the spin.
If the Perth Scorchers are just able to adapt their game to the conditions then they certainly have the bowling to make life very tough for the Stars.
Jhye Richardson is scoring runs and picking up wickets for fun. He is the undisputed leader of the bowling attack and is definitely going to be a part of the Australian squad to South Africa.
Jason Behrendorff, Andre Tye, and Fawad Ahmed round out a very strong unit that will be confident of getting the better of the Stars.
Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone, Colin Munro, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, AJ Turner, Aaron Hardie, Jhye Richardson, AJ Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Fawad Ahmed.
Winning the toss and batting first is likely to be the plan of action for both teams. We think setting a good total is going to be a big advantage as the pitch will get slower to bat on in the second half.

The conditions in Melbourne are expected to be good for cricket on match-day. There is no run forecast and the sun should be shining throughout. The surface at the MCG is a bit on the slow side. That has been the nature of the wicket for the past few years now and we don’t think that is going to change suddenly.
A total of around 165 is going to be par bating first.
We think the conditions are going to make this match closer than it should be. That being said, the Perth Scorchers are red-hot right now and we are not going to advise betting against them. The Melbourne Stars have a lot of problems to sort and they just seem to be a bit lost right now.
Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
