We have a mouth-watering clash to look forward to on Sunday as the top-2 teams of BBL 09 get ready to do battle. The Melbourne Stars have looked pretty much the most dominant team this season and have lost just one match this entire season.
The Sydney Sixers are no pushovers, though, and are coming into this match on the back of five consecutive victories. This match will be the first time that the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers play against each other in BBL 09 and the result will be highly awaited by everyone in the competition.
Both teams have made some changes to their squad ahead of this match adding more twists to the leadup.
Melbourne Stars vs Sydney Sixers BBL 09 is going to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne on the 12th of January 2020.
The Melbourne Stars are barreling over their opponents at the moment thanks to some of their senior players being in prime form. Marcus Stoinis is the highest run-scorer of BBL 09 right now, Glenn Maxwell is just behind him at number two, and Haris Rauf is currently the second-highest wicket-taker of the league even though he has just played a handful of matches.
Even in the previous match, the Melbourne Stars could have been in some trouble before Glenn Maxwell just broke the game open with 83 not out from 45 deliveries including seven sixes to his name.
Even some of the other younger players like Nick Larkin, Hilton Cartwright, and Ben Dunk are playing very well. The Stars are going to be without Peter Handscomb and Adam Zampa for the next few matches as the pair of them reports for Australian international duty but that should not be a major worry for them.
Sandeep Lamichhane has been quite brilliant in the bowling department and a couple of other young bowlers showed they were quite capable of stepping up to the task as well.
The Melbourne Stars have been recovering from difficult positions and showing the value of filling their side with match-winners. The emergence of Haris Rauf in the bowling department was not something that anyone could have expected and that has just raised the performance of the side to another level.
They will be very confident going into this match against the Sydney Sixers.
Marcus Stoinis, Hilton Cartwright, Ben Dunk, Glenn Maxwell, Sebastian Gotch, N Larkin, Clint Hinchliffe, D Worrall, Lance Morris, Haris Rauf, Sandeep Lamichhane.
The Sydney Sixers continue to outperform expectations and now have five wins from their previous five matches. A number of players have turned up for the Sydney Sixers when required but perhaps the most important one among them is Tom Curran.
Both with the ball and with the bat, Tom Curran has made some of the most important contributions and been the differentiating factor in close matches. Moises Henriques is back for this match in place of Josh Hazelwood who is going to be on Australian international duty.
Sydney Sixers have to try and get their batting in the right gear. Josh Philippe has been excellent and has 264 runs to his name already but there is no one else that has scored runs consistently for the Sixers in BBL 09.
Daniel Hughes, James Vince, Justin Avendano, Jordan Silk, and Jack Edwards form a decent batting unit paper but they have not been able to deliver so far. Tom Curran, Lloyd Pope, Ben Dwarshius, and Jackson Bird have been bowling quite well for the Sydney Sixers and we don’t think either of them is in danger of losing their place.
The Sydney Sixers have performed to an astonishing level largely thanks to their bowling and keeping their cool in tight situations. It is time now for the batsmen to start stepping up and doing their bit as well.
Josh Philippe, Daniel Hughes, J Vince, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Tom Curran, J Avendano, B Dwarshuis, JM Bird, Steve O'Keefe, Lloyd Pope.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. Both matches played here in BBL 09 have been won by the team that has chased.

There is a 10-20% chance of rain forecast in Sydney for match day so we should be fine with regard to the weather. As far as the pitch goes, the MCG has been a bit on the slower side this season. Scoring runs has not been the easiest although the Melbourne Stars batsmen have adapted quite well.
Sydney Sixers also play their matches in similar conditions and so they should be able to adapt pretty quickly as well. In both the matches played at the MCG this season, the side batting first has scored about 140 and then failed to defend it.
We think a score of around 160 is going to be very competitive batting first.
The toss is going to play a big role and the chasing team is going to have an advantage. Make sure you factor that in while placing your bets. Overall, though, we are favoring the Sydney Sixers in this match. Their batting is a bit stronger with the return of Moises Henriques and their bowling is very well suited to the slow wicket you find at the MCG.
The Melbourne Stars could be in trouble if Glenn Maxwell fails, which he is due to.
Bet on Sydney Sixers to win.
