MLSW vs HBHW Match Prediction

Melbourne Stars Women To Win the Match, 1.77
Read our quick thoughts
  • Melbourne Stars Women looked in terrific form in the first match, at least with the bat
  • Hobart Hurricanes have a weak batting unit and with contributions not coming in with the bat, they do not really have anyone apart from Priest and Ghosh, who is scoring runs consistently
  • Hobart Hurricanes Women finished at the bottom of the ladder last year and with two losses to their name already, they are likely to be running low on confidence

MLSW vs HBHW Prediction - Oct 19, 2021

Despite lockdown scares, the Women's Big Bash League 2021 continued to march on its merry ways and produced a humdinger in the process. We saw the first super-over of the season happen in the match between Perth Scorchers Women and Brisbane Heat Women and that might well be the sign of what is about to come in the future.

The next match of the tournament is set to be played between Melbourne Stars Women and Hobart Hurricanes and given the position these two sides are in, this is a high-stakes encounter. The match is to be played at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart on 19th October 2021.

MLSW vs HBHW Team Previews

Melbourne Stars Women

Led by Meg Lanning, Melbourne Stars do not have any dearth of experience - be it personnel-wise or performance-wise. They finished second last year and will be looking to get their campaign running after experiencing an uncalled-for loss in their opening encounter.

At the moment, the Stars are placed at the seventh position on the points table, owing to their poor net run rate, but this fixture will be a chance for them to gather some momentum. For the Stars, a lot will depend on how Meg Lanning, Annabel Sutherland, and Elyse Villani do. While they were pretty good against the Sixers in their opening game, they failed to defend a decent total in a rain-curtailed encounter.

Batting first, Melbourne Stars Women racked up a total of 99 runs in 11 overs, but they eventually failed to defend the total as Alysa Healy proved to be a little tough to handle for the Stars' bowling. However, we do not expect the Stars' bowlers to under-perform often going forward.

All in all, Melbourne Stars have a terrific unit on paper and would be gutted to start off with a loss. They have enough experience available to shrug off that loss and come well-prepared into this match. If they are able to perform to their potential, they will be a tough side to deal with, not just in the upcoming match but also in all the matches to follow.

Melbourne Stars Women Playing 11

Elyse Villani, Annabel Sutherland, Meg Lanning, Maia Bouchier, Kim Garth, Nicole Faltum, Tess Flintoff, Anna Lanning, Linsey Smith, Sophie Day, Rhys McKenna.

Hobart Hurricanes Women

Hobart Hurricanes finished last in the last edition of the tournament and they haven't started on a fruitful note this year either. Having lost two matches from a total of two played, the Hurricanes have only a little time left before their campaign starts appearing to be a replica of their last year's campaign.

The Hurricanes made some big moves as far as signings are concerned, but that is not reflecting on the performance. Even though they have signed up Mignon du Preez and Richa Ghosh to bolster the batting, their inclusion doesn't seem to be helping. Rachel Priest, however, has looked good in her limited stays at the wicket.

In both of the matches gone by, the Hurricanes have managed to score totals of 130, which were chased pretty easily by Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers respectively. With the ball, however, the Hurricanes did manage to put up a fight in both the matches, but their bowlers did not really have runs on the board to work with.

Things are getting extremely tight for the Hurricanes as we are moving forward and they would be desperately searching for a win in this match. A loss here will reinforce their position in the bottom half of the points table. They need their batting to step up and if that happens, Melbourne Stars will have their work cut out.

MLSW vs HBHW Betting Tips

Melbourne Stars Women and Hobart Hurricanes Women are both coming into this match on the back of a poor show in their initial respective matches.
