If you are going to watch (and bet) on one WBBL match this weekend then let it be this one. This is the closest match that we think could be very tightly contested. We are talking about the Melbourne Stars taking on the Perth Scorchers, of course.
The Melbourne Stars have hit their stride and now have two wins in their previous two matches. The Perth Scorchers are finding it tough to hit their stride and just have one win in the WBBL season so far. Both the teams swapped a lot of their players (among each other and from other teams) as well.
Having a good WBBL season is important for both of them.
Melbourne Stars vs Perth Scorchers WBBL 2020 is going to be played at the North Sydney Oval, Sydney on the 7th of November 2020.
An excellent display of batting by the Melbourne Stars allowed them to chase down 154 with the loss of just three wickets. Meg Lanning has been in great form as she smashed 69 to top-score for the Melbourne Stars.
Lanning is already among the leading run-scorers of the WBBL this season and she is going to be the biggest threat to the Perth Scorchers. She was a part of the Scorchers setup till last season and so she just may have an extra point to prove!
Elyse Villani, Minon du Preez, Nate Sciver, and Anabel Sutherland add a lot of depth to the batting but the stat from Lanning is going to be crucial.
Katherine Brunt and Nate Sciver will lead the bowling attack for the Stars. They are going to be tasked with try and pick Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine early. If they can manage that then the game is more than half won. Of course, that is easier said than done.
The rest of the bowling appears to be a bit thin and we have seen the Melbourne Stars struggle to keep the opposition batters in check so far. The Stars cannot hope for brilliance from Lanning to bail them out every time and must get their bowling in order.
Meg Lanning, Elyse Villani, Mignon du Preez, Natalie Sciver, Annabel Sutherland, Erin Osborne, Tess Flintoff, Nicole Faltum, Sophie Day, Katherine Brunt, Alana King.
The addition of Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney was a coup by any standards. Both of these players have dominated the WBBL and even the world stage in recent years. Unfortunately, the results have not quite gone their way so far and some tinkering may be needed to get the desired result.
Beth Mooney is near the top of the scoring charts, a place that seems to her default position but Devine has yet to get started.
Meg Banting, Nicole Bolton, Heather Graham, and Sarah Glen have not been able to provide the support needed to help the Scorchers win matches.
We think it is just a matter of time before Devine and the rest join the party, though. There is just too much talent in that lineup to continue to struggle.
Sarah Glen was pretty good with the ball in the previous match but Sophie Devine was expensive. Heather Graham got through her four overs decently but the lack of a genuine wicket-taker in the team seems to be holding the Scorchers back.
The bowlers are going to have to bet at their best while taking on Lanning and co.
Beth Mooney, Sophie Devine, Megan Banting, Nicole Bolton, Heather Graham, Chloe Piparo, Lauren Down, Jemma Barsby, Sarah Glenn, Piepa Cleary, Taneale Peschel.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. The pitch is definitely going to get slower and more difficult to bat on as the inning progresses.

This is the second match that is going to be played at the North Sydney Oval on the day and so we can expect the pitch to get a bit slower. That could play into the hands of the Scorchers as Lanning likes the ball coming on to her bat.
A score of around 130 batting first could be very difficult to chase down.
We think the Perth Scorchers have a good chance of winning this match. The biggest threat to their victory lies in the form of Meg Lanning. We think, however, that the overall strength of the team and the quality at the top will help the Perth Scorchers prevail.
Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
