Our "Prediction Wizard" will calculate, based on the current available betting odds, the implicit winning percentages for the possible outcomes in a match. This will be updated as soon as we fetch the odds from the betting sites and keep updating until the match is finished.
The WBBL follows a weekend cadence for its matches and so every team is going to have to play two matches back to back every weekend. We don’t think the players will mind at all, especially after the lack of cricket that the women have had to endure.
The Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder will lock horns against each other in an interesting clash. The Melbourne Stars are looking to move up the table after years of poor performances and have added some big names to their squad. Sydney Thunder has been very successful in WBBL in the past with one title and two semi-final appearances to its name.
The previous season was a bit of an off-season for Sydney Thunder and so it will want to strike back hard and start well this time around.
Melbourne Stars vs Sydney Thunder WBBL 2020 is going to be played at the North Sydney Oval, Sydney on the 26th of October 2020.
It is safe to say that the form of Meg Lanning is going to be the determining factor for the Melbourne Stars this season. She has not always had the best of time in the WBBL, though, and putting all your hopes on just one player (even someone as good as Meg Lanning) is dangerous.
If Lanning has a good day, she will win the match for the Stars. There is nothing anyone can do about that and this is why the other players are more interesting to watch out for.
On paper, players like Elyse Vilani, Nat Sciver, Mignon du Preez, and Anabel Sutherland should be able to provide enough support to Meg Lanning as needed. The trick is going to be finding a good balance for the side where the players learn their roles in this revamped setup early.
We have seen a lack of clarity about what the players are actually expected to do take down many expensive squads in T20 leagues around the world.
The bowling attack for the Melbourne Stars is a bit thin but if the batting fires, the team is going to be tough to beat.
Meg Lanning, Elyse Villani, Mignon du Preez, Natalie Sciver, Annabel Sutherland, Erin Osborne, Tess Flintoff, Nicole Faltum, Sophie Day, Holly Ferling, Katherine Brunt.
We like the look of the squad that Sydney Thunder has assembled. It lost Rachel Priest and Naomi Stalenburg to the Hobart Hurricanes but added Tammy Beaumont, Sammy-Jo Johnson, Heather Knight, and Lauren Smith.
We think it is safe to say that Sydney thunder came out ahead after that reshuffle.
Sammy –Jo Johnson is going to join an already formidably bowling attack that has Shabnim Ismail and Hannah Darlington in the lineup. Add Sammy-Jo to the mix and you could have the strongest seam bowling setup in the entire WBBL.
The batting is also looking pretty decent with the English pair of Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight in the lineup. We think both these players could do with a slight increase in strike-rate but there is no questioning the quality that they bring.
Rachel Haynes and Phoebe Litchfield add some nice depth to the batting order as well.
Rachael Haynes, Tammy Beaumont, Heather Knight, Hannah Darlington, Rachel Trenaman, Tahlia Wilson, Anika Learoyd, Sammy Jo Johnson, Lauren Smith, Sam Bates, Shabnim Ismail.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. That is generally the trend in Women’s cricket and especially on venues that might slow up a bit as the match progresses.

The grounds in Sydney almost always favor the spinners a bit and that is bound to happen at some point in the WBBL 2020 season. For now, however, we think the groundsmen would have made a genuine effort to roll the pitches and leave them favoring the batsmen so that the pitches hold up for as long as possible.
A score of around 140-150 should be seen as something that teams will be happy defending at this venue.
We are going to go with the Sydney Thunder in this contest. They have a fantastic bowling attack, some dependable batters, and a couple of very decent all-rounders down the order as well. It is a good setup for a T20 team. The Melbourne Stars have Meg Lanning and she can be enough to win matches on her own but we do think they are a bit too dependent on her.
Bet on Sydney Thunder to win.
