The Multan Sultans are in a comfortable position heading into their match against Islamabad United. They are at the top of the league table right now and in a very good position to qualify for the PSL Knockouts. They have only lost one match in the entire PSL 2020 season so far, interestingly, against Islamabad United.
The case for the former two-time champions of the PSL is a bit different. Islamabad United has played eight matches and won just three of them. It also lost a very close encounter against Peshawar Zalmi a few hours before this upcoming match.
Can Islamabad United get its second victory of the season against the Multan Sultans and rescue its season? Let’s find out.
Multan Sultans vs Islamabad United PSL 2020 is going to be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi on the 8th of March 2020.
Rilee Rossouw smashed a brilliant unbeaten century in the previous match that helped the Multan Sultans beat the Quetta Gladiators quite comfortably. It was an inning of brilliance that covered up some of the mistakes that the other batsmen had made before Rossouw came into bat.
Zeeshan Ashraf, James Vince, and Meen Ali had all fallen cheaply. Shan Masood scored 46 to support Rossouw as he continued to have a pretty decent season as well. We are not too convinced about the Multan Sultans batting lineup, though.
They have been lucky to get some very good individual performances on a regular basis but that cannot continue happening.
The all-rounders and the bowlers that the Multan Sultans have stuck with are all performing pretty well. Sohail Tanvir, Imran Tahir, Mohammad Irfan, and Bilawal Bhatti were a part of the playing eleven in the previous match.
This bowling attack is going to be up against a pretty strong batting lineup in Islamabad United and will need to be at its best.
Shan Masood, Zeeshan Ashraf, J Vince, Rilee Rossouw, Moeen Ali, Khushdil Shah, SMSK Afridi, Imran Tahir, Mohammad Ilyas, Junaid Khan, S Tanvir.
Colin Munro played another very good inning at the top of the order and Shadab Khan continued his stunning rise as a batsman in PSL 2020. Both of them seemed to have done enough to get Islamabad United over the line against Peshawar Zalmi but the rain came at the wrong time and handed them yet another loss.
Luke Ronchi and Rizwan Hussin did not score any runs but Colin Ingram was very good in the middle-order and overall Islamabad United’s batting continued to deliver. The story of this season has been the emergence of Shadab Khan as a batsman. Micky Arthur tried his best to turn Shadab Khan into an all-rounder but that did not happen at the international level.
It seems as if something has clicked in his batting and he now has the confidence to bat in the top-order consistently.
Faheem Ashraf and Rumman Raees went for a lot of runs in the rain-curtailed bowling inning and that turned out to be the difference between winning and losing. Shadab Khan also bowled just one over and it appears as if he does not quite have the same confidence in his bowling as his batting right now.
Islamabad United did not do too much wrong in the previous match and perhaps did not deserve to lose. They will go into this match against the Multan Sultans with a fair bit of confidence knowing that they just need to continue doing the same things as last time around.
Colin Munro, Luke Ronchi, Rizwan Hussain, Shadab Khan, Colin Ingram, Asif Ali, Amad Butt, Akif Javed, DW Steyn, Musa Khan, Rumman Raees.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. Fielding first should be seen as a major advantage.

There is a lot of rain forecast in Rawalpindi on match day. We could have a situation where the match is rained out completely. The PSL has been affected by rain over the last few days and it does not seem as if the weather is going to improve anytime soon.
Interestingly, the forecast gets a lot better in the afternoon and so we could have a match if the rain is not too heavy in the morning.
The pitch at Rawalpindi is going to be good for batting. It is full of runs and has been very favorable to the batsmen this season. A similar sort of surface is expected for this match.
We are going with Islamabad United in this match over the Multan Sultans. We don’t think there is too much of a difference between the two teams. Islamabad United has a strong batting lineup and its bowling is pretty good as well. They also managed to defeat the Multan Sultans earlier in PSL 2020 as well.
Bet on Islamabad United to win.
