The Multan Sultans lost their Qualifier in a Super Over contest and now have another chance to reach the PSL 2020 Final. They will face the Lahore Qalandars that rode on the back of some brilliant batting from Mohammad Hafeez to win against Peshawar Zalmi.
Now, the two teams are going to play each other in the Qualifier 2 as they try to join the Karachi Kings in the PSL Final.
Will this second chance be enough for the Multan Sultans to correct their mistakes or will the Lahore Qalandars continue to power through on the basis of their brilliant bowling?
Multan Sultans vs Lahore Qalandars PSL 2020 is going to be played at the National Stadium, Karachi on the 15th of November 2020.
The Multan Sultans were very poor in the first Qualifier. Their new-look batting lineup did not fire and they ended up with just 141 runs on the board. We think they got their batting lineup a bit wrong as well.
Shan Masood could have opened the batting and brought in Lyth at number three. Rilee Rossow could not get going and we think he is the best batsman of this Sultans side by far. On paper, there is still plenty of batting talent.
Lyth, Masood, Rossow, Khushdil, and Afridi all can bat. We have seen all of them play match-winning innings at different times but they need to find form quickly. The performance in the first match gives us a lot of cause for concern.
Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Ilyas were the pick of the bowlers for the Multan Sultans. The Karachi Kings had them dead and buried before the bowlers sparked off a collapse. An improved and inspired performance looks likely to be needed against a dangerous Lahore Qalandars team.
Zeeshan Ashraf, Adam Lyth, Shan Masood, Rilee Rossouw, RS Bopara, Khushdil Shah, SMSK Afridi, Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Ilyas, Imran Tahir, Junaid Khan.
The Lahore Qalandars are riding a wave of popularity in Pakistan that they would not have experienced before this season. The butt of all jokes and memes, Lahore is showing the benefit of having a draft system as it builds on some quality players accumulated over the years.
The Lahore Qalandars bowled pretty well to restrict Peshawar Zalmi to just 170 in its previous match. Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi, Dilbar Hussain, and David Wiese all picked up wickets.
Rauf was expensive in the death overs but that can happen in a T20 match. Nothing much to be concerned about.
The star of the match, though, was Mohammad Hafeez. He smashed 74 runs from just 46 balls and showed why age cannot be the only criteria you look at while selecting players. He has been brilliant for Pakistan in recent matches and is perhaps their best T20 batsman after Babar Azam right now.
Hafeez is going to be the prize wicket for the opposition in this match as well.
Fakhar Zaman, Sohail Akhtar, Tamim Iqbal, Ben Dunk, and the all-rounders give the Lahore Qalandars a very good side. They can score runs and get the big-hits as needed. One out of Sohail Akhtar or Mohammad Hafeez needs to bat through the innings otherwise we could see the batting struggle.
In terms of bowling, the Lahore Qalandars are far ahead of the Multan Sultans and will look to end the game with early wickets.
Fakhar Zaman, Tamim Iqbal, Sohail Akhtar, Mohammad Hafeez, Ben Dunk, SR Patel, D Wiese, Muhammad Faizan, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Dilbar Hussain.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. Defending a total on a flat pitch with the dew to make things harder for the bowlers can be quite difficult.
Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.
We have seen the pitch behave a bit slow in the morning game but then quicken up as the dew comes into play. This match starts at night and so both teams should have good batting conditions to work with.
There does not seem to be any threat of rain.
A score of around 175-185 is the least that a team batting first is going to aim for.
We are going to go with the Lahore Qalandars in this one. The team has more firepower in bowling and its batting is decent as well with Mohammad Hafeez in top-form. The loss of players that the Multan Sultans have had to cope with is proving to be a big challenge.
Bet on the Lahore Qalandars to win.
