About the Match
The Daredevils are at the bottom of the table with just 4 points from 12 matches with no chances to make it to the next level and will go up against Mumbai Indians on 23rd May at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The home team has just beaten the fancied Kings XI comprehensively and staked a chance to qualify to the next level with 3 other teams. What a congestion it is for the teams to make it to the four qualifiers even at this stage; the guessing game continues and teams are performing better and doing the unexpected. Mumbai Indians are brimming with confidence and they have all the positives to crush the Delhi, which is practically out of the race but will try to redeem itself here.
They have surprised all by bouncing back in the tournament in style with no points from initial 5 matches to 10 points from 12 matches, equaling the Sunrisers and Royal Challengers and now posing a challenge to Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals to make it to the last 4 qualifiers. What a tournament for them!; they have done the unimaginable by beating the Kings XI massively in their last match where they chased 156 with a superb unbeaten knock of 100 by Simmons from just 61 balls. Simmons held one end steadfast after the fall of Hussey, who played secondary role to Simmons in the opening stand of 68 runs contributing just 6 runs facing 13 of the 42 balls; the first 100 of the tournament and at what a time it has come! Rayudu, Rohit and Pollard at the end, gazing at the heroics of Simmons, who smashed 14 fours and 2 sixes in his match winning knock, helping the team win against the formidable Punjab with an over to spare, with 7 wickets intact. The upcoming contest should be a breeze for them but they can’t take any opponent lightly at this crucial stage.
The Daredevils have nothing to lose here but the opponent has everything riding on for it in this match; Delhi had a miserable run in this tournament with no one coming good to write home about. In their last match against Kings XI Punjab, they posted a good total of 164 for 7, thanks to a superb effort of 49 runs by Pietersen and D. Karthik contributing 69. But that was not enough against a formidable team like Kings XI, who managed to meet the target with 2 balls to spare losing 6 wickets; Murali Vijay is not making runs after the initial matches and the lower order is not able to withstand the pressure and losing sight. Duminy and Tahir are only able to dent the batsmen of the opposing teams; in the present match against the much more superior Mumbai Indians with renewed vigor, they do not have any weapon to contain or spoil the opponent’s run of victories. Agarwal is able to open with Pietersen and Duminy and Tiwary are able to hold in the middle but others in the team except for Karthik, are not able to hold on.
The Daredevils might put up a fight but stand no chance against the winning streak of Mumbai Indians, who are playing on their home turf. While the match could swing either way, it looks more likely that the outcome will be a comfortable win for the Mumbai Indians.
