About the Match
Mumbai with 8 points from 9 matches are at the 7th position in the points table and will go up against Delhi Daredevils, who also have 8 points from 9 matches and at the 6th position, on 5th May at Mumbai. Mumbai Indians are making progress back up the ladder after back to back wins and have kept their hopes of qualifying for the play-off alive. Daredevils on the other hand need to win four out of their 5 games to be assured of a place in the knockouts and they have the strength and confidence to do that. The upcoming match will be very interesting as both sides will come out all guns blazing to emerge victorious.
Mumbai Indians won their last match against KXIP by 23 runs with opening batsman Lendl Simmons smashing 71 off 56 and Parthiv Patel blasting 59 off 36 to help post a challenging total of 172 in 20 overs. They also put up a disciplined effort with the ball to usurp the hosts; both Mitchell McClenaghan and LasithMalinga executed the plans to perfection as Malinga picked up 2 for 31. Mumbai Indians match against Rajasthan Royals was superb with Ambati Rayudu posting an unbeaten 53 off 27 to lift MI to a massive total. Bowler Mitchell McClenaghan’s 3 for 31 hurt RR severely in their chase. Overall the team has finally found the key to success and Lendl Simmons has been impressive at the top of the order which has eased the pressure on Rohit and team. In the bowling unit, Lasith Malinga has shown signs of returning to his best, while the inclusion of Mitchell McCleanghan has pepped up the bowling squad. Overall they are a strong contender to fight against any team and climb up the ladder to make it to the final four.
Delhi Daredevils lost their last match by 14 runs as they couldn’t chase down the target of 190. JP Duminy played a lone hand and essayed a fine fifty while Yuvraj Singh and Saurabh Tiwary landed a few crouching blows but in the end, it wasn’t enough to overhaul the target. Among the bowlers, Angelo Mathew was impressive as he picked up 1 for 27 in 4 overs but the others failed to do much. Delhi put up a dominant show against KXIP in their previous encounter as Zaheer Khan and Nathan Coulter-Nile put up a good show with the bowling attack along with Tahir and Amit Mishra. The team has many top-order batsmen and talented players, who can bounce back in the upcoming match. The return of Zaheer Khan added much needed balance to the team with the top three doing a fairly good job. Shreyas Iyer played a key role in the team’s success and the talented youngster will be determined to put up a good show yet again. Imran Thahir has performed consistently and overall, the team has the talent and necessary fire-power to overcome any situation and win more matches.
Both teams have same points and this match will be important for both as the race for the play-offs heats up. Mumbai Indians after 3 straight wins have got their confidence back and are playing well in all the departments of the game whereas Delhi Daredevils’ recent performance was not very promising. Although the contest will be well-fought, we feel that leave behind their loss against the Royals to continue with their winning momentum which they had earlier, in the upcoming match as well
