About the Match
What a fitting finish to an exciting season of the Champions League tournament that was marked by excellent performances and thrilling nail-biting matches throughout it would be with two legends competing against each other. Mumbai Indians take on Rajasthan Royals in CLT20 final to be played on 6th October. Both the teams were under intense pressure to make it to the finals and they succeeded in style. The Royals made themselves extremely proud with an emphatic win over Chennai Super Kings by 14 runs that saw them surge right into the finals remaining unbeaten in 13 consecutive matches at Jaipur. Mumbai Indians performed brilliantly again in a crunch situation and defeated T&T in another exciting contest by 6 wickets. The two teams have earned their place in the finals and are evenly matched to win the trophy!
It was a real treat to cricket fans to see the great Sachin play his natural game, scoring easy sixes and fours striding away to an opening partnership of 90 runs with Smith, who scored an amazing 59 off 38 balls. The openers provided the required impetus to the chase and infused confidence down the order too. Rohit Sharma’s did well however it was Karthik’s unbeaten 33 runs at the pressure situation that took the team home safely by 6 wickets. The bowlers did an excellent job taking regular wickets and restricting T&T to 153 runs. The collective efforts in bowling and fielding saw to it that the opponents did not run amok with their batting. Though it was a close match, Mumbai Indians did very well to keep their cool and make it to the finals. This team has made a huge comeback and will certainly make it difficult for the Royals.
It was a glorious match that displayed the Royals’ determination to make it to the finals. The tight bowling unit led by Pravin Tambe’s heroics, made it very difficult for CSK to achieve the target of 160 that was set by the youngsters. Ajinkya Rahane’s superb 70 off 56 balls and a crucial contribution by Shane Watson who scored 32 runs helped the team take the score to a defendable 159. Tambe’s superb spell claimed 3 important CSK wickets giving away just 10 runs and played a major hand in the win. Faulkner, Watson and Shukla got a wicket each and this bowling unit surely mixes it well to throw surprises. Hodge’s would be missed certainly and his absence can make all the difference. Tait might come in for him and he might prove to be a blessing in disguise for the Royals. The Royals are determined to excel once again and with the consistent performances, this team will be a tough one to beat.
Will the Royals continue on their winning spree away from home or will Mumbai Indians who made a huge comeback in their last few games pose a difficult challenge to them? This will be Dravid’s last cricket match and Sachin’s last T20 tournament; which cricketing great will be rewarded with an emphatic win remains to be seen. The match will have its ups and downs and the game could turn either way. However, I feel that the Royals with their grit and determination will certainly take the trophy home.
