Royal Challengers Bangalore
They defeated KXIP by a massive 138-run margin as the batsmen posted a mammoth 226 with the help of Gayle’s fiery knock of 117 off 57; he reached his 14th T20 hundred and also reached 3000 runs in the IPL while AB de Villiers’ 47 off 24 helped the team yet again. Sreenath Aravind bowled with zest and vigour to snare 4-27 while Starc continued on his good form as he picked up 4 wickets and they bowled out KXIP for just 88 runs. Against CSK they suffered defeat by 24 runs in the previous match, getting bundled out for 124. Kohli smashed 48 off 44 while Karthik scored 23 off 20 but after their dismissals, RCB totally collapsed. Starc bowled brilliantly registering figures of 3-24 and the team managed to restrict CSK to 148 but they couldn’t take the team home safely. Overall, RCB is riding on a very strong batting line-up led by the dynamic Chris Gayle and talented players like Kohli and AB de Villiers. Starc and Aravind have provided the spark in the bowling attack and overall, they have displayed the strength to challenge any team and make it to the knock-out stage.
Mumbai won their 5th game in a row and registered another empathic win against CSK by 6 wickets; they chased down the modest total of 159 with 4 balls to spare as openers Simmons’s 38 off 31 and Patel’s 45 off 32 provided them with the required start and set the tone for the chase. Rayudu blasted 34 off just 19 balls while Pandya’s 21 off 8 comprising of pyrotechnics in the slog overs pivoted MI to a thrilling win. Bowlers took regular wickets while Suchith turned out to be the most economical bowler. They also defeated Daredevils in their previous match by 5 wickets wherein Rayudu and Kieron Pollard remained unbeaten on 49 and 26 respectively while Rohit contributed with 46 runs. On the bowling front, Harbhajan claimed 2-11 and Malinga registered 2-33 to be the leading wicket-takers for the team. Overall, the team has emerged as of the strongest team here with Simmons and Patel being successful in providing good starts while the middle order has players like Rohit, Rayudu and Pollard who are contributing well with the bat. McClenaghan has been a valuable asset to the team while Malinga and Harbhajan bring their experience to the table.
Both teams will come out all guns blazing in the remaining matches and do their best to win the upcoming match. Although Mumbai Indians who have won 5 consecutive matches, RCB has shown streaks of brilliance. Because of improved bowling, batting power which include Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and skipper Virat Kohli, I'd place my money on Royal Challengers Bangalore.
