About the Match
It’s becoming very crowded at the top of the table and a win or a loss can make a lot of difference. Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad are set to lock their horns on Monday, May 13 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. This match would be more crucial for Sunrisers just due to the fact that they still have to win at least two games to be assured of their place in the knockouts. Mumbai is about to qualify and a win would do them the favor of taking to the second place or first, if the win margin is considerable. Wankhede has not been a happy hunting ground for the visitors as Mumbai has won every time they’ve played here in this tournament. This match would have plenty to offer with so much at stake.
After a relatively poor beginning, Mumbai Indians have taken off like a fighter plane. They’ve steadily climbed up from the bottom of the table to the top. Winning four of their last five games, and losing none of them at home, Mumbai has sent a strong message to their fans. The million dollar man from Australia, Glenn Maxwell did get a chance in the last game and he didn’t disappoint. Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayadu played exceedingly well in what was termed as a ‘tricky chase’. They have excellent bowling side with plenty of options and fielding can never be questioned when Jonty Rhodes is a fielding coach. Although Sachin seems to be back in the touch, it has seemed to be one man show in all of their games. Mumbai is in rocking form and beating them at home is one of the most difficult games one can get.
Sunrisers Hyderabad played excellent cricket in the beginning, but lost the plot in the middle of the tournament. Now they do have the chance of qualification, but they’d have to win two of their remaining three games. Sunrisers do not have the firepower of Gayle in their batting, neither do they have someone as cool and elegant as Dravid, but what they do have is bowling which hasn’t allowed teams to get past even 130. They are alive in this tournament just due to their bowling and were saved in the last game too. KXIP couldn’t even manage to get past a modest total as Steyn and Co. gave them nothing to score. Their batting seems to be good enough on paper, but Cricket is not played on paper. Their batters have underperformed in this season and it is high time for men like White and Dhawan to join the party. If they do so, Sunrisers Hyderabad can be a tough to play against.
Mumbai’s pitch is considered to be a batsmen paradise where a lot of runs have been scored so far. Sunrisers have excellent bowling which have performed above what everyone expected. This match would really be between Mumbai’s batting and Hyderabad’s bowling. Can Mumbai continue their wonderful homerun for yet another crucial game? It’s possible and probable too. Sunrisers have been alive in the tournament due to their bowling and on a good batting wicket; it may just not be as effective as it has been on others. Moreover, Mumbai is an excellent batting side which is equally good in bowling and fielding. Looking at the teams on paper and the form of the players, I won’t be surprised if Men in Blue win this one.
