About the Match
Mysuru and Mangaluru will play against each other in the 2nd match of the KPL on 17th September at Hubballi; both teams have won the title once each with Mysuru taking the prize in 2014 by defeating Mangaluru in the finals while Mangaluru won the title way back in 2010. While Mysuru’s last year’s performance was below par and they ended up in the 7th position, Mangaluru had managed to reach the top-four but were eliminated in the knock-out match against Hubli Tigers. Both teams have strong units that can do well with bat and ball and they will leave no stone unturned to win here; it needs to be seen which side can overcome its weaknesses and gain two points right at the start.
The batting line-up consists of T20 expert like Manish Pandey, who can deliver with the big runs under crunch situations too; top-order batsman like Arjun Hoysala can try to build the foundation with help from a suitable partner at the other end. S Nikith, Abhishek Bhat, Jonathan, K Gowtham, Raju Bhatkal, Doddamani Anand and Adithya Sagar add strength to the unit and can keep the scoreboard ticking. Whether batting first or chasing a target, the Mysuru batting line-up can hold up well against the opposition’s tactics either with pace or spin.
The bowling department has spinners like Jagadeesha Suchith, Liyan Khan, Aniruddha Joshi, Doddamani Anand and K Gowtham, who can try and stifle the opposition with their varied bowling spells. Medium pacers like Sagar, V Vinay Kumar, V Koushik, Adithya Sagar and other part-timers will focus on providing regular breakthroughs.
Overall, the players can combine well as a team to try and stop the Mangaluru batsmen from reaching a huge total or chasing down a target.
Karun Nair, the experienced batsman, features in the top order of the batting line-up along with players like Shishir Bhavane, Chidambaram Gautam, Harsha Basavraj, Nishith, Vishwanathan and Kishore Kamath. Others like Mohanram Nidesh, NP Bhareth and Nithin Gopal bring their talent to the table and can help build steady partnerships here.
Bowlers like Mitrakanth Yadav, Kishore Kamath, Nidesh and Bhavane can contribute well to stifle the opposition with their spin attack while speedsters like Bhavesh Gulecha, Nithin Gopal and Ronit More can demolish the Mysuru batting line-up with their disciplined spells. There are many all-rounders in the squad like Nair, Kamath, Mohan Akshaya and others who can pull off surprises with their bowling skills too.
They did well last season to reach the top-four and will be determined to do much better with a renewed spirit and a fresh approach.
Both teams had clashed for the title in 2014 but they have had a makeover since then and will put all efforts to conquer the other in their opening match. While Mysuru has a power-packed batting unit, Mangaluru too has strong players, who can turn the tide in their team’s favour and are better placed to win on Saturday
