About the Match
Shivamogga won their last game against Bellary Tuskers by 4 wickets and now they are placed fourth on the table with 2 points; Panthers also won their opening game against Bijapur Bulls by 5 wickets and are placed third with 2 points. Both teams will face off in the upcoming match at Hubballi on 20th September, and will try to keep their winning momentum going in order to climb up the table. While Shivamogga successfully chased down 159-run target in 16 overs against Tuskers, the Panthers easily won the game by scoring the required 138 runs. Both sides have talented players who will try to give their team the necessary boost to have an advantage; the team that can perform under pressure will be better placed to emerge victorious.
The middle-order batsmen like Shreyas Gopal and Abrar Kazi, who scored 42 and 37 runs respectively, helped the team revive the innings during the chase for 159 runs. Zeeshan Ali and Siddharth then kept their nerves together to score the winning runs and help the team win the match by 4 wickets. Earlier, the bowlers Appanna, Gopal and Binny provided regular breakthroughs but proved to be expensive with the runs; they have a good mix of spin and pace that can help them stifle the opposition here.
In the opening match against Hubli, Sadiq Kirmani and Nikin Jose posted a superb 83-run opening stand but the others down the line couldn’t build steady partnerships and they could muster only 129 runs. Although Kazi took 3-23 with his spin tactics and was well-supported by Appanna, Gopal and Zeeshan Ali, they lost the match by 2 wickets in a disappointing way.
Overall, they have the resources with bat and ball to put up a challenge to the Panthers here, and with a good strategy can overcome the opponents successfully.
Opener Mayank Agarwal posted a fine unbeaten 74 off 57 to steer the team across the finish line against Bulls during the chase for 138 runs; he received good support from SK Jain, who scored 24 runs, Abbas and Dubey down the order to win the match by 5 wickets in a narrow finish.
Earlier, spinners Sakuja and Dubey took 3 wickets between them to stifle the Bulls middle-order while medium pacer Sharath took 2-15 to contain the opponents to 137 runs. The experienced Vinay Kumar and other talents like Akshay and Pradeep bring variety to the attack and can help post a stiff challenge to Shivamogga.
The Panthers started off their campaign with a win and they will be motivated to continue with their rhythm here too; they surely seem to be a confident unit to overcome crunch situations and win.
The Belgavi players did a good job with ball and bat to help their team register a win in their opening game; however, we feel that Namma Shivamogga with an in-form top order and a well-balanced spin and pace attack are better placed to win on Tuesday
