About the Match
The much-awaited Karnataka Premier League T20 series is set to start with the 1st match scheduled to be held on 17th September between Shivamogga and Hubli; while Shivamogga made its debut last year, Hubli came close to the title but finished as runner-up and will put its best foot forward to try and win the coveted prize. With an objective to tap into local talent, the KPL has seen quite good success till now and is set to raise the expectations from fans this year. Both teams have good resources that can try and dominate the opposition here; it needs to be seen which of them succeeds in executing the game plan to perfection and emerging victorious in this inaugural match.
The young all-rounder Stuart Binny, who has the capability to lead the side from the front, will be the captain of the team and brings his batting and bowling skills to the table. The batting line-up consists of players like Sadiq Kirmani, Abrar Kazi, Pradeep Gangadhar, all-rounder Shreyas Gopal and Krishnamurthy Siddharth. Youngsters like Srinivas Sharath, Nikin Jose and Sharan Gouda add depth to the batting and can showcase their skills to help the team do well.
The bowling unit consists of spinners Shreyas Gopal, who was successful last season and has been doing well in the domestic circuit, KP Appanna, Abrar Kazi, Paan Deshpande, Dega Nischal and Zeeshan Ali. Stuart Binny can provide the variations with his medium pace while others like David Mathias, K Hoysala and Sharan Gouda bring a lot of options which can try to oust the opposition.
Overall, they are a talented bunch with a good mix of experience of playing in this format of the game and determined youth, who will be eager to start their campaign on a winning note.
With bowlers like Sreenath Aravind, who can try to demolish the opponents with his pace attack, left-arm chinaman Shivil Kaushik and medium pacers D Negi and Kranthi Kumar, the Hubli Tigers are well positioned to defend targets and restrict the Shivamogga batsmen from scoring the big runs. The team has a well-balanced team pace and spin that can help them overcome the challenge here.
The batting line-up consists of hard-hitting performers like Mohammed Taha, who is likely to open the innings, Kunal Kapoor, Negi, Chethan Williams, Cheluvaraj, Abhishek Reddy, Manjesh Reddy and all-rounder Kranthi Kumar. Others like Prasanna Patil, V Prasad, Stalin Hoover, Aditya Somanna and Sarfaraz Ashraf can add depth to the batting line-up and try to keep the scoreboard ticking.
They came close to winning the title last year but lost the finals against Bijapur; they have good match-winners who can come out with all their firepower and provide a good start here.
Both teams have the talent to put up an even contest and the match could swing either way; however, we feel that Shivamogga has a slightly more experienced squad that could give them the upper hand in emerging victorious on Saturday
