About the Match
With their last match against Bijapur Bulls being abandoned due to rain, Mangalore acquired one point and are placed fourth on the table; they will take on Shivamogga, which is positioned at the 6th spot with 2 points after suffering their second loss, this time against the Panthers by 8 wickets, on 22nd September at Hubballi. While Mangalore previously registered a huge win against Rock Stars by 53 runs and will try to continue with their performance here, Shivamogga has won one game so far against Bellary Tuskers by 4 wickets and will be eager to make a comeback with a win here.
Batting first against Panthers, the batting line-up put up a dismal performance and were all-out at 125 runs; the bowlers too failed to restrict the opponents and Shreyas Gopal was the lone wicket-taker, dismissing one batsman. The weak performance with both bat and ball led to their humiliating defeat by 8 wickets.
The spin unit consists of Zeeshan Ali, Abrar Kazi, Appanna and Shreyas Gopal while Binny and Mathias provide variety their pace skills. In the match against Tuskers, Appanna, Gopal and Binny provided regular breakthroughs but the batsmen had to face a stiff challenge of chasing 159 runs from 16 overs. Shreyas Gopal then showed his skills with the bat as well as he scored a well-made 42 and along with Kazi, who posted 37 off 23, kept the scoreboard ticking. Zeeshan Ali and Siddharth fought hard and ensured to get the runs flowing and helped win the match by 4 wickets with 2 balls to spare. The team has strong all-rounders like Binny, Gopal, Kazi and Zeeshan Ali, who can stabilize the innings; with a well-balanced spin and pace attack, Shivamogga can surely bounce back with a win here.
The last match against Bulls saw the batting line-up falling like a pack of cards and they could muster only 45 runs in 9 overs; although, the match ended in no-result, they surely learnt some tough lessons on the field. Earlier, against Rockstars, the batsmen had put up a stellar performance with Shekhawat scoring a brilliant 106 from just 61 deliveries and taking the total to 195 runs. He is in good form to take on the Shivamogga bowlers here and along with others like Bhavane, Basavraj and Gautam, can help build a solid foundation for the team.
Spinner Mitrakanth Yadav has been consistent in taking wickets and had registered a figure of 2-14 against Rockstars; medium pacers Ronit More and Bhareth had also taken 2 wickets each in that game and helped the team register a massive win by 53 runs.
Other spinners like Nidesh, Ankit Kumar and Kamath add depth to the attack and can try to stun the opponents here. Overall, the team has done well to climb up the points table but they will be cautious against the in-form Shivamogga bowlers to avoid any batting collapse yet again.
Shivamogga have had a mixed run so far and they will fight hard to make a comeback with a win on Thursday; Mangalore has good resources that can overcome crunch situations but we feel that Shivamogga with their bunch of all-rounders is better placed to emerge on top here in this encounter
