About the Match
The Dolphins fought hard against Cape Cobras to win the semi-final and make it through to the finals of the coveted Ram Slam T20 Challenge; they will take on Titans to battle it out for the trophy on 12th December at Centurion. The Titans had reserved their berth in the title clash after topping the table during the league stage; they had a terrific series as they went on to win 8 consecutive matches and will be geared up to face the final challenge that comes in the form of Dolphins, who convincingly defended 178 runs against the Cobras in the semi-final match.
They have a strong batting line-up with players like Quinton de Kock, Behardien, Davids and Mosehle, who have been consistent in building good partnerships. The last time they met Dolphins, the bowlers had annihilated the opposition, getting them all-out for a meagre 70 runs. Chris Morris took a superb 4-wicket haul giving away only 9 runs to demolish the Dolphins’ top order; Junior Dala and Albie Morkel took 2 wickets to help them win the match with more than 4 overs to spare.
However, their last game against Knights caused some worry as the top order was shunted out with only 45 runs on the table; Graeme van Buuren had scored 57 runs to give them a respectable total after others fell like a pack of cards but his efforts went in vain. Despite Morris’ all-round efforts of scoring 21 runs and taking 2 wickets for just 12 runs, the Titans lost the match by 4 wickets.
Bowlers Ngidi, Morris and Shamsi have been consistent and vital in executing the winning strategy against many of the teams; however, they should be cautious against the Dolphins as they have suffered defeat earlier on in the league after failing to restrict the opposition in their run-flow.
Morne van Wyk continues to lead the side from the front as he scored 57 off 49 deliveries against the Cobras in the semi-finals; he was supported well by Delport, who contributed with 55 runs, David Miller and Kevin Pietersen who scored a quick fire 27 off just 10 balls. The bowlers Phehlukwayo and Dwayne Bravo did extremely well in the death-overs to take 2 wickets each and stifle the opposition in their run-flow; Maharaj, Delport and Myoli took 4 wickets between them to defend 178 runs successfully and win the match.
When they had met Titans in their opening game of the season, Dolphins had dominated the opponent in all departments of the game as they posted a competitive 179 runs batting first; the bowlers had defended well by putting the pressure on Titans batsmen and win the match by 6 runs.
Subrayen who had taken 4-22 in that occasion is a strong asset for the team; along with others like Phehlukwayo, Bravo, Maharaj, Delport and Myoli the Dolphins can surely put up a stiff challenge. Overall, with their semi-final win, the Dolphins are high on confidence to take on the Titans for the title.
The upcoming match has definitely generated a lot of excitement among the fans, who are rooting for their team to lift the trophy; while Titans sailed through the series right into this stage, the Dolphins have fought hard to beat the competition and look better placed to win the finals.
