About the Match
We are into the middle stage of CLT20 as Titans face Sunrisers Hyderabad on 28 September at Ranchi. Titans have 4 points from two matches, losing against CSK in spite of setting up a stiff target of 185. They won against Brisbane defending a modest target of 123. Sunrisers won the 1st match of oscillating fortunes against Trinidad & Tobago with 3 balls to spare, surpassing the target of 160. They played against CSK in their 2nd match, chasing a tall target of 203 staring at them but fell short by 12 runs and lost the match. They have 4 points from two matches. Titans would like to improve their points as they have just one more match to go whereas Sunrisers would like to maintain the momentum.
Batting first against CSK, Titans piled up 185 losing 5 wickets, where Villiers, coming after fall of Rudolph, smashed 77 of 36 balls and Davids opening the innings, played a captains knock of 52 facing just 43 balls and made good partnerships with others down the order. Richards, with his medium fast bowling, could make a dent on the hard hitting CSK and claimed three wickets. In the next match played against Brisbane Heat, they could compile only 123 runs. However, they won this low scoring match with Davids, Kuhn and Villiers playing well and with good fielding and accurate bowling by Lange and Richards, the opponents could score only 119. Titans will have to keep all the shortcomings in their match against SRH, to remain in the running.
They have proved their entry to the league stage with superb performances in the qualifiers. They won the match against a very experienced Trinidad & Tobago team, surpassing a good target of 160 with 3 balls to spare. Steyn, Ishant, Mishra and Sammy bowled well, with Perera demonstrating all-round performance in restricting T&T to 160. Top order batted well as Perera, coming at number 3, played a superb knock of 57 with just 32 balls. They had a stiff target of 203 against a superior CSK team in their 2nd match and couldn’t reach it. Sunrisers’ bowling at the latter stage was not accurate which counted for the huge total by CSK. Though the chase by Sunrisers began well with Dhawan’s 48 and later Sammy’s heartening performance of 50 runs, the accurate death bowling by CSK did not allow them to take any liberty. Sammy might be absent in the following game due to the injury he sustained in their game against CSK. Sunrisers will definitely tighten the loose ends and go into this match on a positive note.
Both teams are equally placed and have potential to post big scores and tilt the game in their favor. Titans could manage just 185 in the first match against CSK which they lost and then won against Brisbane defending a modest total. Sunrisers on the other hand have shown great determination against CSK fighting till the last ball of the chase. Having a better psychological advantage over Sunrisers and backed up by strong performances of AB de Villiers, Nashua Titans are better placed to come out with flying colors.
