The Cricket carnival in Nepal is coming to an end, but it has certainly left a lot of good memories for the cricket fans in Nepal. As much as the crowd enjoyed watching their local lads play, Oman enjoyed playing in these conditions. They won all their matches of the series and ensured their supremacy at the top of the Men's World Cup League 2 points table. There's only one match left to play before the teams leave Nepal and it is expected to be a sell-out. Nepal is set to play against USA in the last match of the series on 12th February at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.
It wasn't long ago when Nepal were playing in Division 5 of World Cricket and here they are playing ODI cricket at home. They have made long strides in International Cricket and are almost doing similar to what Afghanistan did a few years ago. In the ongoing series, they lost twice to Oman, but won against USA in the only game they played against them.
They are coming off an heart-wrenching defeat at the hands of Oman, in the match wherein they failed to even put up a fight. Nepal's batsmen fared better than they did in the previous matches, but still couldn't do enough to put Oman under pressure. Batting first, Nepal scored 249 runs in total with almost all of their batmsen getting starts. Apart from Airee, who was dismissed for a duck, all their batsmen scored in double digits, yet only one went onto score a fifty. Gyanendra Malla was the pick of their batsmen as he scored 56 runs off 76 deliveries.
While their batting did a decent job on the surface, their bowlers failed to even contain Oman's batsmen, let alone pick up wickets. Jatinder Singh and Khawar Ali got Oman off to a fine spot before Nepal bounced back with two quick wickets. However, it was all high and dry thereafter for Nepal as Aqib Ilyas and Zeeshan Maqsood carried them through to the required total without any further damage.
All in all, Nepal have done reasonably well in the tournament so far, but have been a tad inconsistent. They have a good team on paper and could certainly be a force to reckon with for the USA, especially home conditions.
Subash Khakurel, B Bhandari, Gyanendra Malla, Aarif Sheikh, Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee, Paras Khadka, Sandeep Lamichhane, Karan KC, Sushan Bhari, Lalit Rajbanshi.
USA's tour of Nepal hasn't been the tour to remember for the visitors. They were at the top of the World Cup League 2 points table when they came into the series, but failure to win any of their matches has pushed them to the second spot, right below Oman.
USA suffered a huge loss at the hands of Oman in their most recent encounter. Bowling first on a flat batting deck, they failed to keep Oman to a chaseable score as two batsmen from Oman scored a century each. In reply, the USA could only score 184 as they kept losing wickets at important junctures.
Considering that the United States of America lost in their peevious meeting with Nepal as well, their confidence will be down. The fact that they are a little too over-reliant on the likes of of S Netravalkar and Ian Holland doesn't help them either.
Rusty Theron, Timil Patel, Cameron Stevenson, Nosthush Kenjige, Saurabh Netravalkar, Ian Holland, Nisarg Patel, Aaron Jones, Xavier Marshall, Monank Patel, Akshay Homraj.
Although the result of this contest is going to make no difference whatsoever to the points table, both the sides will be desperate to end the series on a high. They both have failed to put their best foot forward in the series so far and is very unlikely that they will be able do so in the upcoming fixture. Comparing the two teams on paper and on the basis of their recent performances respectively, betting on a Nepal win would be the way to go.
