About the Match

Bangladesh got swept away 3-0 and failed to live up to their pre-tournament expectations. Will they fall away similarly in the t20 internationals or will a shift to the shortest format of the game help their chances? New Zealand The home side will be confident of a good show in the upcoming series but know that Bangladesh will not go down as easily. The visitors had the Kiwis on the ropes for a few short moments but the longer format of the game allowed them to make a comeback. The same will not be true as the t20 internationals start and the gap between the two sides will be much lesser. New Zealand is missing Martin Guptill due to injury and his absence is a huge blow for the team. Neil Broom, his replacement has had a good t20 season and a fantastic ODI series, so hopefully New Zealand will be well served. One of the players to look out for in this series is Tom Bruce.  The 25-year-old right-handed batsman is expected to find a place in the t20 team and bring with him some immense power hitting abilities. He recently averaged an astonishing 76 at a strike rate of 174 in New Zealand’s t20 competition. Bruce will play alongside Colin Munroe and Corey Anderson giving the New Zealand side an amazing amount of power in the middle order. The bowling will be a little light though as Trent Boult will be rested from the first t20  and Southee for the entire series. Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson, though are extremely handy replacements. Bangladesh The visitors came to the island with a lot of expectations. They were starting their tour playing ODI’s and t20’s, which is their favored format of the game. There were glimpses of promise followed by some extremely poor periods of cricket that left them easily defeated. For the t20’s, most of the personnel will remain the same for Bangladesh although Taijul Islam and Shuvgata Hom have been added to the squad. A lot will depend on the performances of Tamim Iqbal and Shakib-Al-Hasan. Tamim struck some form in the last match while Shakib returned two low scores in his last outing. If they both fire in the same game then Bangladesh has a good chance to win. Sabbir Rahman and Mamudullah had a very poor ODI series and will hope that they can replicate their BPL exploits in this game to set things right. Mustafizur Rahman is one of the top rated bowlers in t20 cricket. He is the one bowler that the opposition tries to play out and avoid taking on but that is much more difficult in this form of the game. Expect him to make much more of an impact. The pitch at Nelson is usually fast, bouncy and good for batting. The spectators are in for a high-scoring game if the rain stays away for the duration of the match. We think that the match will be closely contested and a relatively inexperienced New Zealand side could get caught out by Bangladesh. Back Bangladesh for their first international win against New Zealand
