The defending champions of the Super Smash T20, the Northern Districts Knights, have started this season pretty well. They have won two of their three matches so far and will be taking on the Auckland Aces in this match.
These are two of the stronger teams in the Burger King Super Smash with strong batting attacks and some excellent bowlers.
The Auckland Aces have won one game out their three but that includes a rained out fixture as well. They have lost a few players to the New Zealand national side but should have plenty in their reserves to be confident of putting up a good show.
The Northern Knights won their last match against the Otago Volts pretty easily. The bowled first on a difficult pitch that was extremely slow and difficult to score on. The Volta could score only 99 and the Northern Knights had a few early wobbles as well before Brownlie continued his excellent form and led the home side with 34 not out to his name.
Brownlie has been the best batsman for the Northern Knights. He scored 99 in the opening fixture for his side and has continued to look good every time he goes into bat.
The Northern Knights will also not have Tim Siefert for the next few matches as goes away on New Zealand international duty. We have been a little disappointed in the manner than Anton Devcich has started the Burger King Super Smash 2019.
He has not been converting his starts into bigger scores as can be expected by a player of his experience. Anton Devcich is a brutal hitter of the ball and can contribute with the ball as well. He came into the Super Smash with good form and has been getting starts.
It is just a matter of time before starts getting the big scores. The loss of Siefert from the batting lineup is going to add additional responsibility on his shoulders and that is not a bad thing at all.
The Northern Districts Knights are also going to lose Ish Sodhi to the national side. This is something that most strong Super Smash teams prepare for and are used to. The presence of Kuggelejein, Santner, Devcich, and Randell ensures that the Northern Knights bowling remains in good shape even with Sodhi not being there.
The defending champions have started the tournament nicely but are yet to peak. This could spell trouble for their upcoming opponents.
Anton Devcich, Dean Brownlie, Brett Hampton, Corey Anderson, Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, Daniel Flynn, Peter Bocock, Scott Kuggeleijn, Chris Jordan, Tarun Nethula.
A strong Auckland Aces batting lineup was blown away by Jamieson in their last match. The tall fast bowler utilized the bounce on offer at Eden Park and ripped through the Aces. This match against the Northern Knights is an opportunity for the Auckland Aces to show the performance in that last match was an aberration.
There is no doubt that the Auckland Aces have an excellent batting lineup. They have James Vince, Glenn Phillips, and Mark Chapman in their top order. These are three excellent T20 players with all of them having international experience as well.
There are some questions raised about James Vince every time he walks into bat. There is a perception, perhaps rightly so, that he looks good without being able to carry on. Vince has never played the Super Smash before but we feel he definitely has the game to succeed in New Zealand.
The quality of the bowlers he is going to face is not going to be the most difficult and some of the grounds are just tiny. Opening batsmen usually get the best of the batting conditions and so we expect him to strike some form soon.
Glenn Phillips is another batsman that came into the Super Smash on the back fo some excellent performances. He is not a player that is going to dwell too much about his previous failures. He starts each inning aggressively and has the talent to pull it off on quite a few occasions as well.
A couple of the supporting batsmen, including Mark Chapman, need to start contributing consistently and that should take care of the runs for Aces. Here is no way that a strong batting order like this is going to fail on some of the best batting pitches in the world.
The bowling is led by Mitchell McClenaghan, an excellent addition to the Auckland Aces. He took three wickets in his last outing as well and is going to be full of confidence coming into this match. There is a little lack of experience when it comes to the bowling but the likes of Quinn, Somerville, Lister, and Hira should be able to put up a decent show.
Craig Cachopa, Mark Chapman, Ronnie Hira, Donovan Grobbelaar, MJ Mcclenaghan, Robert O'Donnell, GD Phillips, Matthew Quinn, W Somerville, Sean Solia, J Vince.

The Burger King Super Smash T20 match between the Northern Districts Knights and Auckland Aces is going to be played at Seddon Park, Hamilton.
The weather forecast for Hamilton on match day is excellent. There is only a 10% chance of rain predicted with the sun shining throughout. The pitch at Seddon Park is excellent for batting. It is going to allow the strong batting lineup on both sides to really put on a show. A high scoring match is all but guaranteed.
Both sides have a strong batting lineup with some gun players at the top. We feel, however, that the Auckland Aces pip the Northern Knights in the batting department just a little bit. The Northern Knights are going to be missing some key players and that could be the difference.
Back the Auckland Aces to win.
