NK vs CS Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Dec 27, 2018
The Northern Districts Knights started their defense of the Super Smash title with a convincing win in their first match. They are now going to play against the Central Districts as the later plays its first match of this season.
The Central Districts Stags reached the final of the Super Smash 2017-18 season and will be hoping to go one better this time around. The Stags were beaten by the Knights in the final and would like to take some revenge for that result in this match.
We believe these are two very good teams and they should be able to provide us with a good contest.
NK vs CS Team Previews
Northern Knights
The first match that the Northern Knights played in the Burger King Super Smash 2018-19 gave us an indication of just why the side is rated so highly. The best batsman in the Northern Knights did not score a run and yet the side managed to reach a total of 215.
Anton Devcich had a blockbuster Super Smash season last time around and that propelled him into the T20 limelight around the world. He made waves at the CPL and is expected to lead the Northern Districts title defense.
He may have scored a 0 in the first match but he is our pick to be the best batsman in the upcoming match.
Dean Brownlie started Sper Smash 2018-19 with a magnificent 99. He, along with Tom Siefert, Daryll Mitchell, and Brett Hampton form the core of the batting lineup.
The Northern Knights showed the kind of power and depth they have at their disposal in the first game. We don’t think this side is going to be short of runs on too many occasions.
The bowling for the Northern Knights is led by Ish Sodhi. He took two wickets in the last match and was very difficult to score off. His success around the world has given him the confidence to bowl at any stage of the inning and makes him an invaluable asset.
Devcish took four wickets to underline his importance to the side while Mitchell Santner made a quiet return to the bowling crease as well. Kuggeleijn was taken apart by the opposition batsmen in the opening game but we think he is a good enough bowler to strike back.
The Northern Knights have started the Burger King Super Smash 2018-19 in style and look set to be a force to be reckoned with.
Northern Knights Playing 11
Anton Devcich, Dean Brownlie, Tim Seifert, Brett Hampton, Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, Daniel Flynn, Peter Bocock, Scott Kuggeleijn, IS Sodhi, Brett Randell.
Central Districts
The Central Districts Stags were one of the strongest batting units in the Super Smash last time around. We think their batting is still in a good place and will the main thrust area for the side.
The batting is led by names such as Jesse Ryder, George Worker, Will Young, Tom Bruce, and Dane Cleaver. There were seven batsmen who scored more than 150 runs for the Central Stags in the last season of the Super Smash.
That is an extraordinary statistic and one that no other team can boast of. It shows the depth that exists in the Central Stags batting lineup. We love watching Jesse Ryder bat and hope that he is back to his best after suffering from multiple off-field issues.
As someone who can rip apart bowling attacks with ease and just go on unstoppable scoring sprees, Jesse Ryder is a key component of the Central Districts Stags.
Tom Bruce, George Worker, and Will Young also had a brilliant season last time around. Worker has fallen off the New Zealand international radar somewhat and would want to use the Super Smash 2018-19 campaign to help him get back into the frame of things.
Perhaps an often underrated aspect of the Central Stags side is their bowling unit. Adam Milne is a world-class player and while he may be away on New Zealand international duty once the limited overs games get underway, he should be available for the first few matches of the Super Smash.
Blair Tickner took 21wickets in the last season, Ajaz Patel has just made history with the New Zealand test side, and Seth Rance had a very productive season last time as well.
The Central Stags certainly has a bowling unit that is capable of stopping the Northern Knights batting from running amok.
Central Districts Playing 11

Pitch and Conditions
The Burger King Super Smash 2018-19 match between the Northern Districts Knights and the Central Districts Stags is to be played at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.
There is some rain around in Mount Maunganui, Tauranga, New Zealand which could impact the T20 match. The rain is currently forecast to hit the region early in the morning and late in the evening so hopefully, the majority of the match can be played out without any interruption.
The pitch at the Bay Oval is going to be excellent for batting and the small outfields make hitting boundaries quite easy as well.
NK vs CS Betting Tips
The Northern Knights have started Super Smash 2018-19 with the same form that saw them win last year. The Central Stags have a good squad that is well balanced in both the batting and bowling disciplines.
We think the advantage of having played one game and already being in the groove of things will help the Northern Knights edge this one.
Back the Northern Knights to win.
