NK vs OV Match Prediction - Feb 17, 2022

We are just getting closer to the business end of the Ford Trophy 2021-22 and things are getting tighter as we are progressing. Wellington Firebirds and Central Stags are already through to the next round and now the battle remains between the four sides for the only remaining spot.

A lot will get clearer in the upcoming match that is to be played between Northern Knights and Otago Volts on 18th February 2022 at Cobham Oval (New), Whangarei. This match will probably be the last chance for Northern Knights to stay ahead in the hunt and would be desperate for a win. Not a lot is different for the Volts too and we expect them too to give it their all. This is going to be a cracking contest and certainly not the one to miss out.

NK vs OV Team Previews

Northern Knights

Northern Districts are one of the better-balanced sides in the New Zealand domestic circuit but often they are not available at their full-strength. With New Zealand having their international fixtures lined up right from the beginning of the year, it hasn't been too different for the Knights in this season as well. Primarily for the lack of firepower, they are still looking to seal a playoff spot for themselves and a win here in this upcoming match can go a long way.

As it currently stands on the points table, Northern Knights are placed at the third spot with just one win out of eight matches. The fact that four of their matches have been washed out doesn't really help their cause. They have 13 points in total and will be desperately looking for a win to strengthen their candidature for a playoff spot. They have a pretty poor net run rate of -0.699, which could prove to be a key factor should things get tight towards the end of the league stage.

Because the Knights haven't really played many matches on the trot in the tournament thus far, not a lot can be commented on their form. However, despite missing a few of their important players, they have a well-equipped side that can be very tough to deal with in the shortest format of the game. With the presence of all-rounders late in the order, they have a batting lineup that goes deep without compromising on their bowling variety. If the Knights are able to play to their potential in this upcoming match, getting past them is going to be incredibly difficult.

Otago Volts

Otago Volts may not be having the kind of season they would have wanted, they are still pretty much in the business in the Ford Trophy and will be satisfied by the way they have played up until now. The Kings have been one of the worst-performing limited-overs side in New Zealand's domestic circuit recently and a win here will put them right in the front to get to the next round in the Ford Trophy as well.

Currently on the points table, the Volts are placed at the fifth spot with two wins from six matches. Exactly similar to the Knights, the Kings too lost three of their matches washed out and will be desperate to register a win here. They have a total of 11 points to their name coupled with a poor net run rate of -0.930. However, the fact that they have played two fewer games than the Knights put them in an advantageous position in context of progressing to the next round.

Unike the Knights, the Volts will not be missing any of their players to national duty. Besides, they do have ample experience and talent available in the form of Neil Broom, Nick Kelly, and Michael Rippon but they will all have to play out of their skins. If they are able to do that, the Knights will certainly have their work cut out.

Otago Volts Playing 11

Nick Kelly, Dale Phillips, Neil Broom, Mitchell Renwick, Anaru Kitchen, Matthew Bacon, Michael Rippon, Max Chu, Jacob Duffy, Travis Muller, Benjamin Lockrose.

NK vs OV Betting Tips

This is an important match for both these sides in context of getting to the next round as the team losing here will fall behind the race to the playoffs. The Knights are currently ahead on the ladder, but only by a whisker. The Knights will be without their key stars and they will rely heavily on their youngsters to take them through. The Volts, on the other hand, will have their full-strength available. Handling pressure will be a key here and the team that does it better will emerge on top. Keeping that into consideration and weighing the two sides on other above stated factors, a bet on Northern Knights win should be the way to go here.
