NL vs IRE Match Prediction - Jun 04, 2021

The first ODI between Netherlands and Ireland was very exciting and went right down to the last ball of the match. Netherlands eventually managed to win by one run and registered its first win in the ODI Super League.

Keep in mind that Netherlands and Ireland are fighting to get into the ODI World Cup 2023 and this is their only pathway. Every single match counts and this is why Ireland is going to be terribly disappointed that it lost its previous match.

We saw enough to conclude that both teams are quite evenly matched and the contests are going to be very close going forward as well. This second match is one that could decide the series in favor of the Netherlands but the bigger prize is the ODI Super League points on offer.

NL vs IRE Team Previews

Netherlands

The Netherlands may have won the previous match but it is not going to be happy about its performance. Max O’Dowd and Stephan Myburgh managed to get their team off to a pretty good start before they got out against the run of play.

Out of the two, Max O’Dowd is the batsman that we think is capable of getting a big score in the upcoming match. Betway is offering some compelling odds on his performances and we think it is worth checking them out.

The team fell from 51 for 1 to 53 for 5 in the matter of three overs. That is something that they must guard against in the matches to come. 50 over cricket allows you a lot of time to build your inning and teams can afford to go easy for the first thirty overs.

Whether the Netherlands batting unit will show this kind of patience in the next match remains to be seen.

Logan van Beek and Timm van der Gugten played a stellar hand each to bring their side to a competitive total. Netherlands recovered from a top-order collapse very well and that indicates a lot of depth in the batting lineup.

A slightly better shot selection could see the Netherlands score a lot many more runs in this match.

The bowling lineup for the Netherlands is very impressive. Fred Klaassen got impressive swing with the new ball and troubled the batsmen, Logan van Beek also did the same, and Brandon Glover has that extra zip that makes batsmen uncomfortable.

This is a bowling attack that can challenge most teams around the world, especially when the ball swings a little. Timm van der Gugetn and Pieter Seelaar also bowled well to help round out the attack.

Not having Roelof van der Merwe affects the quality of spin bowling but that is not something that the Netherlands is going to be able to change overnight.

Ireland

Ireland may be a Test nation now but it has a lot of work to do to be able to separate itself from the associate nations. That is particularly true for white-ball cricket where its weaknesses are obvious for everyone to see.

The batting for Ireland is quite brittle. Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling are the two players that need to score runs in almost every match. The rest of the players have a lot of experience but not enough match-winning performances to bank upon.

William Porterfield, Harry Tector, George Dockrell, and Lorcan Tucker are decent bats but they tend to throw their wickets away even when they do get set. Simi Singh does a very good job down the order, however, he lacks the big-hitting abilities that a player batting in his position needs.

We don’t rate this batting lineup very highly at all. With the amount of swing that we saw in the previous match, early wickets are always on the cards. This is why a bet on George Dockrell to be the highest scorer for Ireland could prove to be excellent value.

Joshua Little and Craig Young were very impressive with the ball and Simi Singh managed to keep things tight also. Barry McCarthy was quite expensive and will want to improve while the fifth bowler’s quota could also be a problem.

Ireland has a team that seems to have stagnated. It often takes some time getting to its best in a series and with just two more matches to play, it cannot afford to make too many more mistakes.

NL vs IRE Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to bat first. The pitch was a bit sow in the previous inning and batting second is a bit more difficult.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather forecast for match day is pretty good, although, there are some spots of rain on the radar. We could have a late interruption but with a little luck, no time will be taken out from the game.

The pitch was flat and good for batting but did not have too much pace in it. We also some swing with the new ball and hopefully that will continue since it allows a very good contest between the bat and ball.

NL vs IRE Betting Tips

We are going to stick with the Netherlands in this contest. It has an excellent bowling lineup, has proven to be one of the strongest batting teams in associate cricket for quite some time now, and just gets white-ball cricket better than Ireland. All the pressure is on Ireland coming into this match and we think that could have a big effect on the way it performs.

Bet on the Netherlands to win.

Both teams have a weak batting lineup and struggled to reach 200 runs in the previous mach. To get nearly 50% return on your stake for this bet is amazing value and well worth considering.

The odds make this bet very interesting indeed. Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie could play spoilsport but don't underestimate Netherlands batting too much. They have some very good hitters too. We think this is an occasion where the market has undervalued Netherlands and so the odds are too good to pass up.
