What a turnaround has Northamptonshire scripted this year! They were listless last year and have started their campaign with three consecutive wins in as many completed matches. They'll be looking to build on their winning juggernaut as they take on Glamorgan in the upcoming match in Vitality T20 Blast. Glamorgan got off to a fine start, but it now seems to be losing steam. This match would be a fine chance for them to get back to the winning ways. The match is to be played at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham, on 3rd September 2020.
Even though Northamptonshire have a fantastic squad on paper, not many would have expected them to get off the start that they have largely because of the dismal run they had last year. With three wins to their name in four matches, the Steelbacks have seven points in their kitty and are consequently placed at the top of the Central Group table.
Northamptonshire's latest win came on the back of superb performance by Nathan Buck who contributed brilliantly with bat and ball both to help his side post third win of the season. Buck was instrumental in taking the Steelbacks' score to 158 with a brief cameo of 16 off 8. His impact was more pronounced on the other side of the interval as his double-wicket maiden rocked the Bears, who could never recover from the collapse that those wickets induced.
In the tournament so far, Northamptonshire's batting has done pretty well with almost everyone contributing. Richard Levi and Paul Stirling are as explosive openers as any in the competition and they have done reasonably well so far. Ricardo Vasconcelos replaced Adam Rossington and did a pretty good job. With Joshua Cobb, Alex Wakely, and Saif Zaib to follow, the Northants are certainly not short on the batting power.
Northants' bowling prowess was exhibited in the last match as they defended as relatively modest total of 158 runs against a good batting lineup. Billy Sanderson and Nathan Buck have been superb in the tournament so far, picking up wickets in heaps in almost all games. The Northants' bowling was flawless against the Bears that left almost nothing to be desired. The only thing the Northants would have to be concerned about is not getting complacent; if they continue play like they've played, they would be very hard to beat.
Richard Levi, PR Stirling, Josh Cobb, Alex Wakely, Ricardo Vasconcelos, Graeme White, Saif Zaib, Gareth Berg, Ben Sanderson, Nathan Buck, Brandon Glover.
With two losses in two matches, Glamorgan would already be getting the flashbacks of their last year's campaign. Glamorgan got off to a superb start this year, beating Gloucestershire in what happened to be a rather one-sided affair. However, with two losses in two matches thereafter, Glamorgan would be a bit concerned going forward.
Glamorgan's poor show with the bat in the previous match began with Dan Douthwaite getting dismissed for a first-ball duck. Andrew Barbirnie and Billy Root followed the opener soon thereafter as Glamorgan were left with 39 for 3 at the end of the powerplay. Chris Cook, who had been in incredible form, tried his best to resurrect a falling innings, but with no support from the other end, there was only so much he could do. Chris Cooke scored 42 off 34 and was dismissed in a quest to up the scoring rate. Glamorgan's second-best innings came from Marchant de Lange, who scored 28 off 18 to push Glamorgan's total to 133.
On a surface that wasn't difficult to bat on by any means, defending a total of 133 needed a miracle - but there happened to be none. Somerset's batsmen looked to impose themselves from the beginning, but couldn't last for long. Timm van der Gugten and Andrew Salter picked up a wicket each, but the rest of the bowlers failed to put pressure after the early breakthroughs. Somerset didn't incur any loss thereafter and cruised to a win with 23 balls to spare and eight wickets in hand.
Overall, Glamorgan have been dismal after their fantastic win over Gloucestershire. They have a decent side on paper, but lack of good performances can hurt their confidence very quickly. They are playing this game against the table-toppers and would have to bring out their 'A-Game'. If they can do that, the Steelbacks will certainly have their work cut out.
Nicholas Selman, Daniel Douthwaite, Andy Balbirnie, Chris Cooke, Owen Morgan, Callum Taylor, Graham Wagg, Andrew Salter, Ruaidhri Smith, Marchant de Lange, Prem Sisodiya.

There is a daylight of difference between the way the two sides have played in the tournament so far. While they both started with wins in their respective matches, only one side managed to build on it. While Glamorgan is a pretty good side, facing Northamptonshire will be a big challenge. Considering the recent respective performances and the two teams on paper, we expect Northamptonshire Steelbacks to stroll to an easy win in this upcoming encounter.
